Is this better or worse than AMT version, and what are the primary differances between this and other 1911s than the obvious.Seems well made to me just put a Wilson match bushing in it and reloaded 3 bullet styles of 200 grn copper clad with 9 grns #5 powder.

P.S. Was a little dissapointed from some of the posts I read after I got it

Kevin,
I have an IAI commander size 1911. It has been a good reliable functioning pistol. It shoots extremely low. I need to fix that, I believe a new link and barrel bushing would take care of it. It was my first IDPA gun. Haven't shot it in years-----hum-----maybe it's time!

I was begining to think I was the only person in the world to own one of these. Mine has been reliable with factory ammo, but it chokes on my handloads.

Main difference I can see between this and other 1911's is fit and finish. Finish on mine is less than stellar, actually kinda poor. As for the fit, all I can say is mine shoots extremely low also. I'm no gunsmith, but I was told a poor barrel/bushing/slide fit was the cause. Dunno. I'll have to try a new bushing and link as Savage suggested and see if that helps.

Although I have no proof, I tend to think IAI uses a lower quality steel too. The frame/slide on mine seems to be kinda soft.

Anyway, like I said it has been 100% reliable with factory ammo. Makes for a good truck/beater gun. A couple of 'character marks' can only improve on its looks. :lol:

I have handloads trying 9 grns #5 200 grn Rainer semiwadcutter, ball & hp it shoots great except for the HP . I ALSO INSTALLED WILSON BUSHING it tightened up the fit a bunch.Seems reliable enough to me.

I'm having just the opposite problem. Mine will feed 185gr XTP handloads fine, but it sometimes won't fully chamber my 230gr lead round nose handloads, even after passing them through a Lee factory crimp die. I think I may have gotten an oversize lot of lead bullets. Oh well, I have less than fifty bullets of those left. I just bought some 230gr copper plated bullets. Have to load some of them up and see how they do.

Definitely going to try a new bushing too.

Buy the bushing wrench when you get the bushing, you will need it.
