how far away?
« on: May 11, 2005, 05:01:19 AM »
Hey guys after my season wound down, I was wondering about some mistakes I may have made.

When I was trapping around school here I had traps set within 30' of the beaver lodge, and it seemed that after a week of empty traps, and me being around every day, the beaver spooked or moved on because there was no fresh sign for the last 2 weeks I was there.

On the other hand, the 2 beaver I did catch were in a little stream. I had the traps set upstream from their pond and lodge about 200 yards or more.

I guess I'm just wondering if it's better to stay away from the beaver and set traps upstream from their lodges?

If I have a lodge,I set near it.Doesn't seem to matter as far as distance is concerned. At times I will even make a castor mound on the underwater skirt of the lodge.
