I liked the look of the Mossberg and from the few I've seen the fit and finish was satisfactory.  I came close to buying one at a local Dick's.  It was discounted to $229 and was a .30-06 but the finances wouldn't allow it at the time. I have read that Mossberg has suspended production but has not officially discontinued it.   I have not read why, though.  My guess would be lack of sales.

Regarding the Spartan.  I very much like the shotgun but I think the rifle is ugly, plain and simple.  I have no idea why they did not contour the barrel with the receiver.   I do like the selection of calibers and from the few I've seen the workmanship seems pretty good.  But it is ugly.

The Spartan line is Remington's answer to the NEF Handi. Nothing wrong in that. They'll appear in the same mass merchandise outlets more then likely and woull be a good first rifle or shotgun that can beat around the farm, barn, ranch and still get the job done. Won't make a fashion statement perhaps in the Cadillac or Jag crowd, but who cares as long as it shoots.
