Neglected barrel....
« on: May 15, 2005, 08:27:48 AM »
I recently bought an encore bp barrel that has some pitting and scratching in the bore...It shoots ok but the bore looks bad and i need to sell it.  What can I do to improve how it looks inside?  Not trying to hide anything because i will guarantee its ability to shoot accurately...but I want it to look better inside.

I don't think anything could repair the pitting.

I bought a rifle online and found it badly pitted and rusty when I got it. I made several passes with JB Bore Paste and it looked a lot better. I also found it shot OK but I was unhappy with the corrosion I found in the nipple thread area so I managed to get the seller to take it back and refund my money. He claimed he took it in on trade and was unaware of the condition so he gladly refunded. You could try some JB and it will improve it some.

eskimo36,

No one has mentioned it yet but "Fire Lapping" will clean-up a barrel fairly well.  It will not fix it, but it will polish the heck out of clean-up slight pitting and scratching.

I bought a Renegade barrel off e-bay - I was really disappointed with what I saw inside - but after lapping - the thng really shoots great and does not look all that bad...
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....
