I'm getting ready to order some barrels for my handi, but I have some concerns. I've seen a few posts about people having problems with the barrels they've had fitted to their rifles.
How many of you out there have had problems?
What kind of problems?
Along the same lines. I want a 44 mag barrel fitted to my monte carlo stock. Is the comb too high to use the iron sights?
How do I request a trigger job to be done for my rifle when I send it in for the barrels?

rugbynut,

1) I personally have had no problems with factory fitted barrels.
2) Yes, I have found that my monte carlo stocks have been too high with open sights. But another shooter may have different a cheek weld and have no problems.
3) A note inclosed with the rifle requesting a trigger adjustment will get the job done.
4) I have not seen a grasshopper with a shotgun, but I did see an owl with his own SMLE. (No one was scr..messing with him!)

Is that a spotted owl?
I guess they are taking this being on the endangered species list in their own hands. Tired of all those loggers messing with them.

I do know. My friend from Washington state had a box of spotted owl helper he let me try.

Would cornbread and diced apple stuffing be good with spotted owl?

Just need to know these things if I ever meet a lady interested in the plight of the spotted owl.

I got the .44 mag barrel fitted to my wife's youth .243. The comb is definitely too high for me to shoot the open sights. My cheek bone rests hard on the comb, and my face takes a beating. Tonight, I bought a weaver #82 scope base, and mounted a 4x scope.

As for problems with the accessory barrel, it locks up better than the original barrel, which was supposed to be fixed.

That's the answer I was looking for, so now I'll probably just buy a 44 mag handi later on. Have to think about what barrels I want that will work with my stock.
If anybody can tell me. Are there big accuracy differences between the standard taper and bull barrel .308 Win?

That would depend on a bunch of variables...gennerally...the bull barrels are more accurate...gennerally mind you...not always...a-lot depends on the ammo used and the person shooting it too....each one is different...I've had both...with the right loads both would shoot pretty darn good...more than acceptable for any type of hunting...but the with the bull barrel I could shoot longer without the POI changing due to the barrel heating up...in this case the application was different...the regular 308 barrel isn't really intended for extended bench work or long durations of shots fired thru it...the bull barrel is more suited for that type...

More than anything though...is finding the load/loads that your paticular rifle will shoot good...and that can be very frustrating...some of these have really long throats...others are cut to SAMMI specs or even tighter...and your accuracy will depend on this as well....

My Bull barrels 308 loved 165 Federal match ammo...and would shoot 1/2 groups very easily with it...my standard 308 didn't do nearly as well...but will still shoot respectfull groups...

The weight difference has to be taken in to account also...my scoped restocked survivor with the 308 Bull barrel was a-lot heavier than the regular stocked 308 standard Handi...and if you have to lug it around all day up and down hills crossing creeks or thru heavy brush...it might not suit ya as much as a regular one...

Thanks. That helps a lot. The barrel weight is what will probably make me lean towards the standard barrel. I like the better accuracy of the heavy barrel, but the prospect of carrying it in the mountains of Colorado doesn't thrill me. I guess the accuracy is really a non-issue. Weight of the rifle is more so. I have a .223 bull handi rifle now. It doesn't seem too heavy. It's a tough decision. I can't afford both, like to spend a lot of time at the range, but also need it for hunting high mountains.
