I am looking for a scope for my .300 Savage. $250. would be my Max with Taxes. I will be hunting deer in thick brush small fields. My max shot would be 250 yards but the majority would be under 80. I have a cheap bushnell sportsman 3x9. I would like something around th 4power that I can easily pick up my target at close ranges as well as long. I have been told to get a Busnell trophy 2.75x4 power. Is this scope what I should be putting on?

I would recommend the VX-1 Leupolds in 2-7x or 3-9x, great scopes for the money in your price range...You won't beat Jon's prices and customer service is top notch!!

A Bushnell Elite 3200 1.5x4.5 would work well for you. They are in your price range. Check out The Optic Zone.

My vote goes to Bushnell Elite 3200 series also, although I would opt for a little bit more magnification than the 1.5x-4.5x. I have this exact same scope on my .375H&H mag and it has help up wonderfully.

Don't overlook the Nikon Buckmaster.

I personally don't like the VX-I because it has friction adjustments rather than click adjustments. Heck, you can get CAs on cheap $50 scopes, why can't Leupold at least put CAs on the VX-Is?

Camper, Zachary shoots his best groups with the 1.5x4.5 scope. :eek: I still can't figure out why he always wants more magnification.

Well, maybe the GUN shoots the best groups, not the scope?

Maybe if I had more magnification then I could shoot better groups?

Zachary, you have a rifle that shoots small groups on it's own? :eek: I'd pay to see that. Have you experimented using low magnification at the range yet. If so what are the results?

I have a 1.5x5 Vari x III on my 1955 f featherweight. I had my Dad's original Weaver on it, but over the years wanted something smaller, and with better glass. This scope is quite small with 20mm front lens.
By far this is my favorite setup on deer. I have never shot it above 1.5!
I haven't seen this particular scope in years ... Does Leupold still make?
I would definately go with a small low power on the 99. Why screw up the classic line of the greatest American deer rifle?
