Ye Olde Rubber Snake

A few years ago I was having problems with birds and other small critters in the vegetable garden.  I tried a couple of different things until I read about using a small toy rubber snake.  While walking through a toy department one day, I saw some rubber snakes about 3 feet long....some coiled and others stretched out.  I bought three of them for the garden.

Since then i have had no problems with most of the small animals, and sometimes the birds make a manure deposit when they happen upon one of those dangerous rubber meat eaters.

Cutting up an old green garden hose and drawing eyes on one end or attaching buttons works just as good.  Rubber Snakes can be a 24 hour security system for your Veggies.

I thought I was the only one using those things. We have swallows that want to nest above our front door, so I keep one on the porch. It's fun to watch first time visitors, too.

The rubber snake works well..also if you happen to have one of those owl decoys you use to attract crows, it will work...for a while also..
    The owl however, not only keeps the birds out of you rgarden...it will keep them clean out of your yard..

My wife uses a coiled rattler and it seems to work.  She put the darn thing in the barn for the winter and I keep forgetting about it.  I jump everytime I suddenly see it. :grin:

  Ole rubber snake works for me..owl tends to "wear out " after a couple weeks with birds around here.

As for the owl, I saw a boat and dock with 2 fake owls and both were covered with gulls and some sort of white stuff.
