Stoeger Help!
« on: May 16, 2005, 02:14:03 PM »
Went to Gander Mountain to look at some O/U, and  doubles.  The Stoegers looked ok but felt kinda bulky and boxy to me.  The one I thought felt a lot better was a Khan (I think thats rignt).  It's also made in Turkey but I don't know beans about them nor did anyone at Gander.  Anybody ever heard of them or have any info to share about them.  Also does the S 2000 use the Benelli chokes or their own.

I don't have any personal expierence with the Stoegers, but I have read a lot of very positive feed back on various forums, on the Stoeger 2000. They are licensed to manufacture and use the Benelli action. It has a 3" chamber. I've seen a couple negative comments about the Stoeger over and unders.

I've looked the Stoegers over at Bass Pro Shop, and had the same "boxy" impression. The stock isn't comfortable for me. The pistol grip is too wide and blocky. The action also sounded kind of clunky to me, although I've heard good things about them.

I have no experience with the Stoeger O/Us but do with the SxS guns. They are low priced but really quite solid buys. There is a difference in the feel of them as the wood is NOT the same dimensions on all. Each apparently has enough hand work that some craftsmen do better on them than others.

I had a 28 ga. that felt big enough to be a 12, but my current 20 has a nice slim wrist and feels quite OK for a 20 ga gun. It's not as slim and lively as an English or Spanish copy of an English gun but not bad when you consider the money I have in it.

The Turkish Huglu guns are very nice. They have the feel and look we seek in a nice SxS. I've not yet seen their O/Us. The first I saw was at a gunshow and I turned it down at an asking price of $795 because I was pretty sure they sold for less. Now my dealer has one in and he's asking $849. I'm still not buying as I do not think that's a proper price on it based on suggested retail.

Grumps,
what are you going to be using the gun for?

The Stoeger is about half the price of the Huglu.  The Stoeger would be a great choice for a field gun while the Huglu would hold its own at any gun club.

:D Frankly I would have stuck up my@##@ if you gave me one. I purchased a new Uplander Supreme S/S in 12ga and what a peice of crap. Took it to the skeet and trap range and new completed on round. The third and 4th stations the $$#$# thing doubled. If that wasn't bad enough not enough force to punch the primer on AA skeet loads. Did ok on Aluminum heads and primers on Estate loads. I'll put it this way it aint worth $50.00 much less $500.00. I can only say buyer beeware!!!!!!!!!
