I didn't intend it as a correction, I agree with you, they state what they would like us to think, but the bore isn't what they imply.... Guess I worded my post badly, sorry.
Tim
Yeah, and by not really telling you anything, they are free to hem and haw when you send a barrel back for repair.
I like what cheatermk3 said about this best.....lots of people pay big money to have the kind of fit we have in our 38-55's. I figure more of my inaccuracies come from silly things like not being able to weigh sort bullets or cases as some dummy at Lee Precision decided that 110 grains was all one needed to weigh on a scale. I suspect this same jerk later went to work for NEF creating barrel dimensions.
If I discount flyers that are obviously a result of a bad bullet, my 38-55 shoots the Lyman 264 grainer into 3/4" at 50 yards. That is measured outside of holes, so the groups are 3/8" center to center. It will do this reliably with three different powders at velocities of 1600-1900 fps. My plinking load pushes a 250 grain bullet at a sedate 900 fps or so and will reward me with 1 1/4" groups all day, 2" including flyers. Whats the problem?
? The ammo ain't loaded by the methods set forth in a manul?
Neither is Schutzenfest (SP???) ammo. In fact, they don't make ammo. Those guys seat the bullet in the LANDS with seater, then shove a case of powder capped with a WAD in the chamberr, close the breech and proceed to shoot 1 and 2 inch groups offhand at 200 yards. Tell them they are doing it wrong
I can't tell you how many 94 Winchester 30-30's I've seen that wouldn't put 10 shots into 2" at 50 yards and the fella thought he had a fine rifle  The one thing I look for more than what kind of groups I'm getting is where does the first shot go?
If the first shot consistantly lands within one inch of itself not just over the day, but day in and day out I ain't happy. That is the shot that matters. The rest tells me how good my ammo is, but that first one over time tells me how good the rifle is. And I can tell ya I am damned happy with my 38-55.
So why would I send a rifle back I'm happy with, and why would I send a barrel back to someone whoe screwed it up in the first place and then defends their screw up rather than fix the barrel? Thank you just fine, I'll make do with it just as is, and if I want different I'll do it myself.
