Hi,

I know of a Marlin 336T 30/30 for sale at $175.00. The blue is still on the face of the bolt. About what are they selling for?

This one has a microgroove barrel. What kind of groups could one expect at 100 yards with cast bullets vs the newer deeper cut rifling?

ba 50: Marlin Microgroove barrels can be made to shoot better with cast bullets than many would expect. The trick is in firelapping your barrel, which is very easy to do. About the best advice I can give you is to suggest you either drop on down to Veral Smith's Forum or go to the Beartooth Bullets website for information, load data and materials for firelapping. HTH. They are going for a heck of a lot more than $175.00 in these parts, esp in that shape, you cant find a POS for that price. If you dont get it please PM me with the details of where it is. I would like a 336T

First, I'm sorry it took so long to reply. My computer monitor died and online time has been intermittent. I hadn't talked with him for a year and didn't know if he still had it.

Anyhow I went back and looked at it. It was a 336RC in EC condition. It had slight wear marks on the hammer. I've had the bug for a 30/30 this last year so I bought it for $175 which included a box of new Winchester cartridges. That walnut stock, lever action, and the fact I won't lose anything on it helped me decide to buy it. 30/30's used to bring $100-150 around here but a friend said it was worth $200-250.00. Everything just keeps going up.

The problem now is the sights are blurred more than I like. I would like to get an aperture sight but that front post would still be blurred. Maybe the XS ghost sight would solve that problem or no-line glasses. I also want to try a very light weight and low powered scope, to see how it affects handling.
Now, if Illinois would just let us use rifles during deer season!

I just put an apeture sight on my muzzle loader because the open sights were so fuzzy. The front sight is now nice and sharp. If you like peep sights and have used them much I think you will be surprised how much it clears up the picture.
Because I saw the front sight more clearly the groups got smaller also- along with the increased sight radius.

I tried putting a piece of tape with a hole in it on my glasses and it did help me see the front sight, but it narrows the field so much it wouldn't help in hunting. I set a target peep on top of the 336 with and without the eyepiece in and neither way was acceptable. The front blade on an M1 rifle isn't real clear so I doubt if a change in iron sights would work. that leaves glasses. A scope is what I usually use but a 94 and 336 would be handier without a scope.
