I have a Savage 116 Stainless Steel 300 RUM with the factory muzzle break. This rifle has given me 1/4" and 3/8" three shot groups after I installed the Bell and Carlson Duramax stock. It was 3/4" groups before the new stock. I've never actually used it on a hunt (too many options in my gun safe and not enough hunts), but I intend to use it for pig and elk.

7mm rum in rem sendero - great shooter - if i do my part normally a three shot group will be all but touching - loaded with 150gr. swift scirroco and 94.5 gr RL25. carry it deer hunting when hunting from box stands where shots will be from 2 to 4or5 hundred yrds. its abit much for a portable climbing stand. will take elk hunting this fall if everything works out.

One of my younguns has both in Rem 700s. The 300 will shoot around an inch and the 7mm is alittle better. Both have some serious recoil but its managable. He shot a doe(whitetail) with the 7mm this fall.She took the bullet right in front of the shoulder and it went out the hip on the opposite side.

I have a 300 RUM in a Rem 700 with a Leo VX-III 4.5-15x50 and my Buddy bought the same thing in the 7mm RUM. I broke both of these guns in (because i have very nice facilities for such things). I have the following to say about these guns. Both shoot MOA groups. The 300 has slightly more noticeable recoil but very manageable. The 7 has more factory load choices, but how many do you really need for these calibers. I shoot the Rem 180 Sciroccos, flat shooting and great performance on game. If you reload there are endless possibilities. Having shot both and seeing game shot by both I would not trade my 300 for the 7 for even money. I think you have a wider range of knockdown power with the 300 and unbelievable range. If your going to go after bigger game you would be silly to give up that power for no logical reason. Saying that, the 7 is a great weapon. By the way the Buddy with the 7 is planning on getting a 300 short RUM.
