Do they include the cost of shipping the gun to the store?  I'm saving my nickels for a Handirifle and want to know if I have to save any additional ones besides the sales tax.

No shipping, just sales tax and any fees they might charge for the background check.

Thankfully every Walmart I've been to around here carries firearms.  We got a new one going up in the next town, I can't wait.

Mostly they charge if you don't buy; usually the fee is waived if the sale is made.

I guess I don't really know never having bought a gun at a Walmart.
The local shop doesn't charge me for the call, neither does the Bi-Mart in town.

Sportsmans Warehouse and BiMart both charge the fee, whether you are approved or not, in fact, they charge it up front before they even make the call!!! I bought several guns last year over there......Sportsmans has big hunter orange signs at the gun counter, so they don't keep it a secret.

BACKGROUND CHECK AT STATE LEVEL
Do state police perform a background check in addition to federal NICS check?  Yes

Oregon: State law requires all gun buyers to go through a state-based criminal background check which includes the federal NICS check. In 2000, 1,171 illegal gun buyers were stopped in Oregon due to the background check. There is a $9 fee for the background check.
