I was wondering what are the reason why the action has to be sent off to refit othe barrels to the action,seems being there is no bolt on the gun headspace should not be a problem. :-D

Their production process doesn't have the close tolerances required for a one frame fits all barrels or one barrel fits all frames, so each barrel has to be fitted to each frame.

i was wondering bout that too. Does that mean T/C rifles are made to the such close tolerances?

Yup, that's what it means. If NEF's were like TC's they would likely cost as much as TC's too.

However many on this forum have purchased individual (used) barrels and found that they fit their frames just fine, or after just a bit of tweaking.

It really wouldn't make our Handi's cost as much as a TC frame and barrel assembly...all it would take is for NEF to decide to implement some stricter guidelines for whoever they are outsourcing the laying up and welding of the barrel lugs and forearm hanger studs... This would result in accomplishing what many of us have been asking for for several years...to make a true switch barrel Handi without the need to send it in...or to refit each of them to different frames...by shimming or filing of the lug as we have to do now...they could use computer controlled robotics to weld the lugs and forearm stud...ensuring their exact loacation on each barrel...then utilize different sized hinge pins and allow them to be made available to us...to fit the barrel to the action...

Due to the variance in tolerences from frame-to-frame, there is a few thousandths of difference in the distance from the large frame pin at the front of the frames that the barrel pivots on and the standing breechface that the firing pin rests in...

They "fit" the finished barrels and frames by grinding that curved, polished area at the front of the ejector lug a bit at a time until closing lock-up and headspace are correct for that gun only.
