I shot a new Olympia made AR-15 with the collapsible stock the other day, and it served to remind me of many of the post-war semi-auto rifles that seemed to be made for people who have no neck.  The guns that come to mind are the CETME, the AR-15, the FN FAL, the AK-47, and the French MAS 49 for starters.

I have to shoot these rifles with just the tip of the lowers part of the stock into my shoulder, causing a high pressure point which is uncomfortable while using the sights.  My Mauser 98 and all the other sporting and bolt action military rifles are made for people with necks.  What is especially odd is that people are generally larger now than 100 years ago, with longer necks, so it is especially weird that the modern guns are designed with such bad stocks.

Anybody know why this is so, hey veterans, did your sargent explain why as well, for those of you who wore the uniform?

Thanks.
