7.62x39 here to stay?
« on: May 19, 2005, 06:56:51 PM »
I know the 7.62x39 has been around for ages. But, is it here to stay? I would like to get more SKS and a AK-47, but, I hope the round is not dieing out. What do you guys think? Do you see it going up in price? Or do you see it staying around the 3 to 5 dollor range? I found some "red box" Eagle stuff tonight, it was like $9.00 a box?!?! Whats up with that?

Any-how, what is your guys imput on the 7.62x39 round?

            Thanks.
                       Dave.

I still have some of the orginal chinese norinco 7,62x39 squirreled away but I shoot only the Russian made wolf or barnaul 7,62x39 because of its cheap price.  I never buy any expensive 7,62x39 ammo.  I would reload it first but since my paratrooper sks is shooting 1 1/2" groups @ 100yds and my scoped sks is shooting about an 1" and under with chinese ammo why use anything else?  I would buy some wolf and barnaul ammo and benchrest it to see which one it likes better.  You may need some barrel breakin time too and it may just tighten groups up more too.  I mailorder all of my ammo too from AIM surplus or MidwayUSA but sometimes you can find sales at sportsmansguide too.  I have seen the barnaul and wolf ammo 7,62x39 for as little as $59 a 1,000rds. on clearance too so it pays to buy it when its cheap to stockup on it.  Every few months there's sales on ammo.  I shoot mostly all imported ammo.  You can shoot more for less if you shop smart.

Frugal most of the time and down right cheap all the time BigBill!!!!

The winchester metric ammo is actually sellier & bellot.

We never know what is going to happen after the next
election! with the stroke of a pen importation of cheap
foreign manufactured and military surplus ammo could
cease over night!!! Be prepared for this when it finally
happens because we all know it eventually will.....
Be prepared, Stock up....stock up......and STOCKPILE !!!

TRUE WORDS
Myself, I've been going with the WOLF rounds, from Cabelas.
I order mine also.
I've shot U.S. brands and thing the Winchester is best in my guns, but all U.S. rounds are sky high priced.
The wolf's are fine for the job they do here.
And yes, stockpile, because you never know.
And if it comes down to banning all guns, the ammunition won't exactly be for four legged critters anymore.
Sorry for the truth, but hey-that's what "they" are scared of.
Lets keep them scared anyway.

Thats true,  that is the nice thing about 22LR it is cheap and you can stockpile a bunch for little cash outlay and a 22 will kill a deer to feed you or kill  two legged preditor if need be. Yea other calibers may be better for some things but the 22LR if crap hits the fan or ammo is banned is one way to go if you can stay away from your stash. :)
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Well I don't know if it will go away.  The AK47 is the most widely distrubed assult rifle in history. And a lot of gun makers are now starting to chamber for the 7.62x39 like CZ and recently NEF/H&R.
I believe it will be around for a while. I hope so anyway-my SKS loves to feed.

I read on Classic Arms the reason the ammo prices is going up is because of gas prices...  I can't see why it would be dying out, its the most widlely used weapon in the world (the AK; 7.62x39), and think about how many AK's, SKS's, and Mini-30's are there in the US?  I'm sure Wolf is raking in the $$$ with the consumers in the US.

As I said though before, It only take the stroke of a pen to stop it all.
If John Kerry would have gotten elected I can almost assure you that
importation of military caliber ammunition would have ceased.
2008 is going to be Hell for gun owners. If Hillary and the democraps
win, I will bet that national registration will be in effect before 2009.
We need to start now preparing for it.

If you can afford it, buy several cases each month and stock up.  DO NOT KEEP all of it at your home 20.  BUT stock up
