.221 Fireball, cases are longer lastin' than a .22 Hornet's, and you can load to the same noise level. Handy in populated areas where noise=danger.

I like the .223 Remington. Inexpensive to reload, lots of bullet types available & the brass is easy to aquire.

I like the .223 too. Forget about the reloading stuff though. I buy 2 or 3 thousand rounds at a time for 6 cents a round, from my friends at the gun shop. Its wolf too. I kinda like wolf.

Any-how, call me "out of date", but I love my old Marlin .22LR. My dad bought it in the midd 70's and gave it to me some years back. Since then I have put 10,000 rounds though it with out a burp. I hunt tree rat, rabbit, crow, cat, black bird, grond hog, raccon, possium, beaver and yote with it. I would not traded it for the world. Infact I sould get another one just to have. $100.00 at Wal-mart. I think there the same as my 70's model.

the more i shoot my encore pistol, .223 is getting to be my favorite. the myriad bullet weight possibilities and the 300 yard range and the dirt cheap ammo are good arguments to buy one.

204.  When you shoot one you will agree.  I have mine in an Encore and the first 5 shots at 300yds were all inside 3".  If I could drop the wild one it would have been <2". Factory loaded 32gr Hornady V-Max.

I voted for the .257.  I've got a .25-06 and a .243 in this smallbore category.  I love the .25-06.  It fills the niche I have for it perfectly, in my opinion, to whit, deer and pronghorn antelope.  If I were going after coyotes the .25-06 would work well for that too, but I'ld probably prefer my .243 as just as capable but a little easier on the ears and pocketbook.

I am particularly fond of the .222 Remington.  It never lets me down.  There's flatter shooting stuff out there but I like the old triple deuce.

It won't get many votes in a beauty contest, but it is still one of the most accurate calibers ever.

I have a new "favorite", it's my .204 Ruger, Encore rifle!

It will have some catching up to do, to pass my Remington M-7 .223 Rem or my Ruger M-77 22 Hornet!  These 2 will not be sitting on the back burner either!

I have to go along with Bwana on this one.  I started out with a Sako Varminter in .222Rem.  Since that time I've added  .17Rem., .222Rem.Mag., a .22-250, .243Win., 6mm Rem., and a .25-06.  ou know something?  My favorite is still the .222Rem.  That little rascal has a charm all its own, and the accuracy is terrific.  At 8.5lbs it's just the right weight for an old fogey to lug around the woodchuck fields.  Just one mans opinion.  Best wishes.
