I thought that the gout affected the lower extremities.

My comment was meant as a joke....but seriously, gout can be extremely painful and I'm sure really can have mental side effects as well as physical.... :(

Tim,

I knew you were just joking!

I don't think I have a very bad case, just in a lot of different places at the same time.  When I quit taking low dose aspirin and niacin, I think things began to improve.  I tried to come off of the diuretic I take, but my blood pressure wouldn't stand that!  It shot up to 160+/110+, so I started taking the diuretic again and brought it back down.

  I don't know if I mentioned it before, but one of my bosses at the Post Office had severe gout, he's not one to complain, but anyone could definitely tell when his gout was bothering him and I certainly wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I may be looking for the reamer sometime in the future.  But for now, I just want to be able to shoot factory ammo for cheap.  Good links on this thread however.

has anyone reemed to the 357 max and found the gun doesnt shoot the 38 spcl very well anymore?

Reloading, are the dies able to make both 357mag and max.  What are the setup changes required.  I use Lee dies to date, do they have a factory crimp for both lengths.

Mine wouldn't shoot 38 Special to begin with, part of why I rechambered it. I've been using Lee 38/357 dies with complete satisfaction for my Max reloading. I don't heavily crimp the cases, just enough to turn the case mouth back straight, so the crimp in factory seating die works just fine for me. I do notice the Lee offers a 357 Mag/Maximum die set. Can't say what if any difference there is, or if it's even worth their making a different set. The only difference I could see would be the depth of the crimp in the seating die anyway

Mine shoots .38's better than .357's. Thats one of the reasons I left it as a .357 Mag.  The other BIG reason is it will chamber and shoot .360 Dan Wesson's as is!!!!....<><....

MSP,

Have you realized any real gain from using .360 DWs?  I don't know that they really make much difference in mine, probably due to having to load them shorter OAL than what I can load the .357.

Lee doesnt make a case length cut off gage/tool for the Max, do they?

I really dont want to reload for the 38s or 357 mags, I would only get into loading for this if I ream it to a Max.  My reason for getting the 357 mag was to be able to shoot low cost factory ammo (38 spcl).  I dont see an application for me to use it as a 357 max, but I am thinking of doing the conversion for vanity reasons     And we all know those are compelling reasons

Paul, I have not worked up any special loads for the .360 and my chamber must be cut longer than yours since I can load nice long bullets with no problem....<><....

I can load a 180gr xpt to 360 oal & have it fit in my 357 chamber with no problem prob a little longer have not tried to find the max my barrel would take. This works fine for me no need for 360 brass but may get some in the future just for the novelty of it

Lee doesn't list one, but I think I would try to make one from a #90150 .35 Remington length gauge by shortening the pin by about .30" or so until the trim length was attained.

Trim length????? I guarantee that you will have split cases before you have any need to trim a 357 Max case. As with every other straight case I have used, they simply don't grow in the same way a bottle neck case does. Remington is the only maker of the brass, and all i've had runs at least .010 under max case length to begin with.

I also don't full length size my cases. My sizing die is only turned in to resize about half the case length. Firing the cases in one chamber, that is singly loaded by hand, I simply see nothing gained by full length resizing. I decap in a seperate die, you can get a Universal decapping die or like me just use something bigger..... I use a 45-70 sizer for this purpose
