Two interesting small cannons I came across.First one posted for sale by a guy in Edinburgh who sells props for films etc. interesting design..........geared elevation, 7.5 inch barrel, 3/10 inch bore, unsure if it's a shooter.Breech looks unusual,he wants crazy money for it but posting for interest only.£950 but have you seen cost of accomodation for tourists there.......mad!
The second one is of interest only through how much some guy paid for a plain, unfinished paperweight really.Picture will follow on another post to follow this one,it's a 5.3 inch brass barrelled 5/8 inch bore and has been bored out only down to 1.5 cm.quite a nice looking barrel but that's all.Was on U.K.e-bay and was bought by an American...(no comment) for an insane £173 sterling.Must be the last of the rich Americans.

Working on a Special request bronze Howitzer. Interesting to cut. The surface finish is starting to come to life!

Well after the great wood shortage. I was almost to the point of scavaging pallets Which might sound funny but the "blue" ones are acutally made of oak. Which is a little hard on the saw but still semi decent wood. I finally got some real supplies Some fine Myrtlewood from the other side of the country from Oregon. Man that is like halfway around the world. This internet is really cool seek and you shall find or it will find you. This wood has some wild grain to it. I hopefully can break out the surface planer this weekend and blow the dust off the scrollsaw. It should look great with one of the Irishman's barrels. I have been doing pushups because the barrel is tarnished. Thanx Boomlover

He could have picked up any old wood, scrap lumber, ect, ect, to paint...I could have saved him some time and $ by sending him to his backyard scrap pile for that..but...when you want the best, forget the rest, KWIM? Ray, listen and listen hard, pay real close attention. You will probably never ever hear me say something like this again.

After you make the carriage and you finish the wood with a super high gloss and you see the incredible figure that Myrtlewood can produce you must, if you can, keep that brass barrel gleaming, not a smudge anywhere. You are going to find that with careful attention to layout of the grain and figure of that wood that the barrel is simply "trim" on a gorgeous piece of wood and must be kept immaculate or be lost to the wood. The figure and fiddle back in that top piece in you picture is awesome!!!

Yes I, the most traditional of the traditionalis , Double D is saying bare wood and polished brass!!!

Paint? with this grain? I don't think so. No paint no stain. Just a nice clear coating to let that grain stand out.

I see where the confusion came in. I mentioned the "blue oak" pallets. If you surface plane the pallets the wood is workable. But this Myrtlewood is much much nicer. I assure you neither paint or stain is going to touch this wood. This stuff is like gold. It would be a crime to paint this stuff.

Actually stain can work on Myrtlewood quite well. Stain then sand. Things like flame and fiddle back will just "explode" when you do this. hand rubbed the grain have amazing depth.

There use to be a lot of black myrtle wood that came out of the area where Boomlover lives and I know the secret of it. The myrtlewood logs were buried in the mud of the old mill pond and some of the swamps nearby. After being under water for years those logs have incredible golden brown dark figure. I'll bet there are still logs lurking in the that area mud right now. Those logs after years in the mud and water were extremely dry and stable.

The 5/8 inch little wooden balls arrived this weekend. My wife commented that I finally found some balls...aren't women a pain?

We used a scoop of powder (it's a BNA cork mortar. no idea how much a scoop is) and patched the wooden balls with two cleaning patches I use on the shotgun. The wooden balls definitly fly farther than the corks do. Makes a little more noise too.

One shot was between two pine trees into our neighbors yard (we wanted to make a field goal...we did. Flew over 60 feet...lol).

My son in law took the pictures for ya'll. Enjoy! We have decided that a fire cracker cannon is in our furture.

Did this one in B&W just to be different.

I have to cinvince the Irishman on doing a Coehorn. I like bothering him. So far I was only able to surface plane the sides of the Myrtlewood. thngs got a lttle busy. Like capsizing Kayaks in frigid waters and rebuilding a sail boat. amonst other things I will have pictures posted soon like a peice of the infamous "blue pallet wood"

RocklockI conned me into posting these for him, but I will let him tell you all about his new, naval Parrott. He built the carriage in our shop in about one hour; he's an artist with a bandsaw! I tried to snag him for some big Paixhans Mortar Bed building, but he escaped. When every piece weighs over 40 lbs, volunteer help is scarce!

Thank you Tracy , it's white oak , I like the way it turned out . The new guns name is "dink" cause that was the sound it made after the very first shot when it recoiled off my trash dumpster and hit the road "dink" .
It left a couple of scratches SO I decided to never polish it and only clean the bore .

BTW it is the CSA marked .30 cal. parrot from the irishman

That is a great looking carraige and done in an hour to boot. this is as far I have gotten. The sides a surface planed. I take my time surface planing because the thing makes alot of noise so I got to fire off a few golf balls to boot. The barrel is laying on some surface planed "blue" pallet wood. It is nice wood but boring it has no fancy grain like the Mrytlewood. In the backround is another project I am in themiddle of and I still have to sand the keel and rudder on a sailboat. But I am used to multitasking. It keeps me out of trouble.

Well the sail boat is full size. Thatis a different project This project has a weed eater motor. I need to talk to the Irishman for some firepower for this one. But I think the local authorities would frown on that.....

Its an old AMF minfish. I made a mistake saying the keel needs work. Itis the skeg and rudder that is bad. it has been sitting outside for over 20 years. But due to the skill I taught myself making these cannon carraiges. I can either rebuild the need parts or fabricate them. Well re rigging the sail and some fiberglass work going to be a learning experience. And I was wondering an addition of a swivel gun but the local lakes I think that may be a prohibited item. Someday I would like to restore an old wood Chriscraft. A lot of this wood working ecperince I learned here. Before this post ever started I never even sawed a piece of wood.

i rebuilt an old 72' Korele Jr.(fiberglass) . it had a hole or two in the hull ,and the deck (cockpit floor was cracked .

It all went pretty good then a coat of one part marine paint ,and bam "Beats Workin" was ship shape agian !

but no cannon.
