So, how do your .223 Handi's shoot?
« on: May 21, 2005, 02:46:51 PM »
I just sent a receiver back to have a .223 Ultra barrel fitted, and I was curious to see how everyone's .223 Handi Rifles shoot.  What can I expect when she returns?

If you polish the bore before you shoot it, you should see 1" groups right away with the win whitebox 45gr JHP, within 60-80 rounds, groups should tighten to close to ½" or a little more. If it has an ejector, polish the chamber, it an extractor, don't worry about the chamber. The group in the bull is the last group I shot with mine...

I have two .223 Handi rifles but I haven't been able to put much time into load development for the last one I bought. The first Handi has a 22" bull barrel and I have shot best groups of:

3 shots - .248" (Nosler BT 50 gr/Varget)
4 shots - .325" (Vmax 55 gr/IMR 4198)
5 shots - .420" (Nosler BT 50 gr/IMR 4198)

What is kind of interesting about my three best groups is that they were three different bullet/powder combinations. This means I haven't even settled on a "best load" for this rifle and that I have more testing to do. The .223 Handi has already exceeded my expectations.

I have 2 & both will get 1 in & under if I do my part with the win 45 gr the remington bulk pack 45 gr 1.5 in not quite as good. Have not found a load to equal the consistancy of grouping as the win white box
