I scored a couple small parts on eBay during the last couple weeks, a new hammer($19 shipped) and beavertail grip($19.50 shipped) safety for my Norinco 1911A1(matte slide, blue(ish) receiver).
I didn't have the jig for the .25" radius job, so I got out my engineering & drafting templates. found center and used a .25 hole in a template to etch a grind-to line. ....dremel tool though got a lil out of hand, but final fit is not too far off from some of the factory beavertail guns. It isn't perfect, but works great and looks half way decent for a kitchen table job. And it has a tighter fit then the original that rattled a little. ...no sloppy noise to deal with.
New hammer is a bobtail commander style(spur hammers dont work with beavertails). Stainless w/polished sides and blackened knurl. Had to do a little filing to get the trigger pull cleaned up. Original had a 3.5lb pull, the replacement was coming in at around 5.5-6lb with some "dirt" in the feel.
Next project will be some polished stainless addons like extended slide release, over sized ambidex. safety, extended trigger. After that a possible longslide and barrel. ...then a complete refinish on slide and receiver to look something different.. I'm thinking a $400 black chrome dip..
All this will come when the funds are available though, damn tight times these days in the money department.
