New to forum. Question on S&W 22-a
« on: May 22, 2005, 01:04:51 AM »
Purchased a S&W 22-a the other day, 2 bills nib., also picked up a brick
of cci blazer, and headed to the range.
Put it through the paces 3-4 hangups per clip. Toward the end of the second box started to smooth out maybe one hang up every other clip.
accuracy down right good, better then what I remember my 22/45 being.
anyone had any experience with this pistol? Good or bad. On the good side
is this normal until it gets a few hundred runs through it? Those who own
one. What particular ammo feeds best in yours? Thanks for your help.

jtd:

I own one of the two-tone 22A models with the Hi-Viz sights and wood grips.  I've put quite a few rounds down range with my 22A and I've found that the higher velocity rounds tend to hang-up far too often...and I too have run quite a few Blazers though it with the same effect.

On the flip side, I've found low velocity rounds (Wolfe, Rem Subsonics, etc.) work VERY well in this pistol.  In fact, I rarely shoot anything other than Rem Subsonics through my 22A anymore.  It's my round-of-choice for this pistol.

One last thing...this gun seems to require more cleaning and more frequent lubrication than most.  Perhaps do to the materials used to make the slide and frame or just by design.  In addition, it seems the gun jams more frequently after a new buffer has been installed...nothing to prove that, just my gut feeling.

Overall, it's a neat gun to shoot when all you want to do it roll tin cans and punch paper for fun.  Not as accurate or as reliable as some...but a lot of fun to shoot anyway.   Hope yours works out as well for you as mine does for me.

Be Safe!  ...Chris   :D

S&W 22-A

A tip from a friend lead me to winchester Dynapoints. She sang a pretty
song with that load, no hangups at all, (maybe it was break in to begin
with). Also before I quite shot a .5 inch 5 shot group at 15 yards. Took my
target to my gun hangout. They pulled a factory target from a bull barreled ruger 15yd 5 shot .5 inch group 429.00. Needless to say I'm
happy as a pig in mud.

Good accuracy.  But I am really surprised that S&W puts their name on this hunk of plastic and cast metal.  I'm trading mine off, as soon as I replace the buggered up plastic "buffer" and the broken firing pin.
