BEST RECOIL PAD ?
« on: May 22, 2005, 10:27:06 AM »
hI , i WOULD LIKE SOME info from shooters with first hand experience using various recoil pads as to which recoil pad is the best for a medium recoiling caliber such as the 270 winchester. I have first hand experience with the pachmayer decellorator but have no experience with any of the others such as limbsaver, kickeez etc .    Thanks ,CRAIG

BEST RECOIL PAD ?

I've got a Remington LVSF with the R3 recoil pad. It's what Remington calls the Limbsaver pad on their rifles.  Granted the 22-250 isn't a big kicker, but the pad really makes the rifle nice to shoot. I'm VERY pleased with it. MI VHNTR

Hi, from what I understand the limbsaver is hollow on the inside and I am curious if when mounting the gun to your shoulder if it compresses when the gun is pulled back in a firm shooting position? I guess I want to know if the pad compresses to easily and feels mushy when mounted or is it relatively firm and only compresses during recoil?thanks  ,CRAIG

The pad has a very soft feel to it when you touch it. There is some amount of give to it, but it doesn't compress totally when you put the rifle to your shoulder. I compared the R3 to the Pachmeyer Decellerator on a Weatherby Super PredatorMaster one day at the range, The R3 was a bit softer than the Pachmeyer, but not by a large margin. They both seem to work pretty well. MI VHNTR

BEST RECOIL PAD ?

I just put a Limbsaver on each of my Ruger#1's. They're a whole lot better than what comes on them. I'll probably take the pads that I took off the Rugers and fit them to the NEF's that I have.

I've used Pachmayr Decelerator pads before, with good results, but most recently switched to using SVL LimbSaver  recoil pads. I first tried one on a T/C Encore rifle w/ a synthetic stock (pad is a "prefit" direct replacement for the hard rubber factory pad). The reduction in felt recoil was dramatic.
I've since gone on to replace the factory pad on a Remington 700 ADL rifle (in 7mm-08) I'm setting up for my young son. With the new Limbsaver pad in place the felt recoil of this rifle is comparable to a standard weight sporter in .223 Rem.

I use a slip on limbsaver on my handirifle chambered in 500S&W. It really saved my shoulder. Its the only recoil pad I have ever tried and I am happy with the results.

Another vote for the Limbsaver here. I have two one on my Encore 209x50  and the other on my Citori skeet gun. What an improvement over the factory pad on both.
