 The temp finally climbed above zero for the first time in almost a month(29 yea!) and I just HAD to try out the new rifle, a Sako 75 Hunter/Stainless in 7mm Rem mag. After a lot of pondering and comparing I mounted a Zeiss 3x9x42 Silver matte scope with Leupold bases/rings.
The only ammo that was handy was a box of 140gr Rem Express Core loks. The trigger came set at a crisp 2.5#and is externally adjustable through a pilot hole in the magazine port, really handy. Sako guarantees sub-MOA and I was eager to prove it.
My quick sight in method is to adjust the rifle to be about 0.5" low at 50yds and then fine tune in at 100. It only took a few rounds to do that, I really like the ext. click adjusters on the Zeiss.
I never shot a 7mm mag before and was surprised at the mild recoil, Sweet! My first 100yd shot was 1" high at 12:00 windage, GREAT, now lets try a group...the next shot off the bag was touching the first :-) You all know the feeling when it works out good! The next (critical) shot went in the first hole!! YEEHAA :-D My skeptical buddy said"Can you put another one in there?" Guess What? Bango, right in the middle of the group!!! I am really happy with my first 7MM! I hope the accuracy holds up when I get some 160gr Nosler Partions to work up for my Elk trip!
I really thank all your help in choosing this combo for my first Elk hunt this fall. Tomorrow I pick up my .300 Wby that I had Braked and accurized by a gunsmith, we'll see how that groups next Saturday
