Update...T.L.C. working with .243
« on: May 23, 2005, 06:14:13 AM »
I couldn't find any 'bore paste' locally...so I used a variety of bronze bore brushes in my screw-gun to ream the chamber and neck.  Then I used ordinary automotive Turtle Wax and polished the chamber and neck, tried  some new factory Remington 100 gr corelokts...vs. the hot reloads, and this rifle performed sweetly.  I also reset the scope so that it isn't bumping the hammer.  Eventually I am going to find a more appropriate scope and use slightly higher rings.  I still cannot fathom why the guy would cut the end off the hammer instead of getting the proper scope and rings.  Just blows my mind.  Now all I need to do is locate some reloading dies....although I was pleasantly surprised at the cost of new ammo...about 11 bucks..nice surprise.
....make it count

Robert;
To actually polish out a chamber, finish rubbing compound , which is a very fine abrasive, would be the compound of choice.
I have 2.5x20 Simmons shotgun scopes  on some of mine , the longer eye relief, 5 to 9" allows me to mount the scope far enough forward that no hammer spur is needed.
Lee RGB die set is about $14 from MidwayUSA

Flitz, Maas or Simichrome metal polish will work fine and one or more should be readily available at most supermarkets and hardware stores.
