Freedom Arms Field Grade 44 mag
« on: May 23, 2005, 02:14:04 PM »
I just picked up my new Freedom Arms Field grade 44 mag. It has a 7 1/2 barrel, 3 1/2 lb. trigger job and factory studs for their sling. I also purchased their Lovell mount for my Leupold 2 1/2 x 8 scope. I can't wait to shoot it.  I did have a Freedom Arms 475 Linebaugh with the same barrel length and Magaport but after my shoulder problems it became too much gun for me.  Please don't think I am bragging, I am so happy I just wanted to share this with people who love "handgun hunting. Congrats !
My Freedom arms revolvers are the most accurate revolvers I have ever shot !  On my last trip to the range I was shooting some hot .454 loads through it and I had a couple guys shooting 30-06s next to me that decided to stop and wait for me to finish . They said the blast was feirce , and NO mine are not ported .

I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes you just gotta TELL someone. You'll find no better place to do just that around a bunch of nuts.

Congratulations on your gun. You made a real fine choice.

Take Care,
Scott

Congrats!

I have an 83 in 454 with a 7 1/2 barrel. I also have a Leupold 2X mounted on it using the Lovell mount.

Freedom Arms are great guns and once you own one, it's hard to want anything else.

I'm in the process of working up the courage to tell the Mrs. that I'm going to get an FA in 45 Colt this summer.  Right now I'm sorta in the "pre-lust" stage over this gun and as the summer wears on I'm sure the genuine "lust" stage will develop and then I'll just HAVE to get that gun!!

Heck Bill, it's your fault.

All those Rugers with barrels unscrewing, and you telling them to try a FA.
Then... letting me shoot your 44mag. FA, getting that one hole group. Yup, I think all the blame should be on your shoulders.
Next thing you know we'll be wanting a Freedom Arms Forum all our own.
Hmmm... that would be nice.  :-)

Still saving for my first one.  Found a sweet .41 but just can't come up with all the bucks yet.  Still, as a .41 nut I hate knowing that it probably won't be there when I go back.  Retired teachers can't be FA's biggest customers!!

You guys keep talking them up. It keeps me committed.  I'll get mine eventually and appreciate the devil out of it because it didn't come easy.

An FA forum sounds like a winning idea.

:cb2: If anyone has the right to brag, it's a FA owner! I'm not there yet, but like the Mayor, I'm working on it! My local dealer has a nice FA97 in .41 mag, but I'm holding out for the FA83. From what I understand from discussion here, the 97 won't take the larger, heavier bullets.

Hey GB, how bout that FA forum here???????????

Old Griz;

Yup, your right. The Model 97 wont take the larger cast bullets in 41 Magnum. I've got one in a 5-1/2 incher. But that is what I wanted, The smaller frame for ease of toting. I've got the 657 in a 7-1/2 inch barrel, which does fine with a banderlero holster. Also wanted the same size gun to match the 44 Spl. in a 97. One shoots big bullets slower, the other shoots smaller, lighter bullets faster.
Gotta Love those FA's.

i got out again tonight for a spell shooting.  only took the f.a..  this gun just continues to impress me.

i am very, very sore in my arms and chest today, to the point it is hard for me to do much.  i still was able to shoot several  inch and a half groups @ 50 yards;  from field postions.   pretty good considering how sore i am.

Good job on the new revolver,I am sure you will really love it.

They say that that particular scope mount is a remarkable thing when mated with the Fredom Arms Revolvers.

245 grain semi wad cutter, lyman 429421 to be exact.  ones i cast myself.

the last four years i have been changing diapers with very little free time to pursue things that i love.   one of the many things that have fallen by the wayside is my weight lifting time.   memorial day i lifted for the first time in four years.   i got so sore!  i couldnt even sleep at night.   anyhow,  i went out to rid my yard of twigs and grass clippings, and slipped my f.a. in the truck with me.    as sore as i was, i still managed to shoot several 1 1/2 inch groups @ 50 yards from the sitting postion with my elbows resting on the inside of my knees.   when i heal up and get more time i will test it out even more, and hopefully take some pictures and post them up.

until then, it is back to "no pain, no gain" for me.   :)

:cb2: Maybe that's why I'm in such great shape (round!). Everytime I get up I'm lifting a tremendous amount of weight!

Model 83 44mag range report
« Reply #21 on: June 18, 2005, 09:30:14 AM »
I  had a chance to take my new Freedom Arms to the range. Stats: Freedom Arms model 83, 7 1/2 bbl with a Leupold 2 1/2 x 8 scope. I shot this handgun about 26 times with four different factory loads without a cleaning. Please bear in mind, the range is 110 yards with the Leupold scope turned up to 8 power at all times.   The first load was a factory Winchester 250 grain Partition load. I shot two three shots groups. The first three shot group was three inches. The second three group was 1 3/4
inches. The second load was  the Winchester 250 grain Platinum Tip. The first three shot group was 6 inches. The second group with the Winchester 250 grain Platinum was five inches. The next factory load was the Federal 300 grain Castcore.  I shot one three group for three inches. The last load was a factory Federal Classic 180 grain. The first  three shot group with the Federal Classic 180 grain was  1 1/4 inches.  The second three shot group at 110 yards was 2 inches.  Thanks for looking. PS.. the cylinders were random. Not shot out of the sme cylinder every time.  Rod in Pa..
