Do you think this scope with the Multi X reticle would be good for target shooting? I am trying to decide between this scope and the 4200 6x24x40 with the fine cross hair and target dot. I know the 6x24 has the better reticle for target but I would like to have the higher magnification if it would work OK. Target shooters, what do you think?---Thanks--vernonp

For target shooting, higher power is almost ALWAYS better. Now if you are shooting 25 yards, thats different, but anywhere from 50---infi. the higher power is better.

Actually you'll find that unless you're doing some real specialized target competition shooting more is not always better. Mirage becomes a problem after a few shots and in summer once the sun is up it's almost always a problem. I've found even 24X more than useable on my range past 10:00 AM on most summer days.

Good point GB, I had forgottwn about that....another thing is to make sure you keep the same quality optics.....its better to have a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 than a Simmons 8-32......kind of obvious, but u get the picture....no pun intended
