Hi Gringo, It isn't really a burst. It is more like a gradual increase in scores. Last year I gave up High Power and concentrated on 22 and air rifle so I could learn how to shoot Rifles better. A 22 will teach you everything that the High power recoil doesn't allow you to see. If you don't want to start 22, then buy a good PCP air rifle and start practicing in your back yard. Buy the match rifle. they are slower and will teach you way more about trigger control and follow through. Physically i am just a specimen
. C'mon I am over weight 38 yr old male. This isn't a physically demanding sport..all you have to do is learn how to stand still. Isn't as easy as it sounds. I do have a couple of rules about food on match days. No caffine, no eating less than 2 hrs before practice starts. and I usually only drink water during the day( lots of water) and eat granola bars. But I have found lately that I can eat lunch as long as I keep it mild.
..The most important part is the Mental game. Match pressure is what holds back most shooters. there is only one way to get over it. Shoot a lot of matches. Mentally prepare yourself to shoot well. Every time I step to the line I fully expect to hit every single target. If you don't expect to hit it then you are guessing and hoping for luck. I know my guns and I have checked the settings they rarely change much unless a range is set up different. Don't be afraid to try something new, even in the middle of a match. When things aren't going right you have to change something now! I have learned from 12 year old kids and been whipped by them.Ihave also learned from some of the best in the country. I will watch other shooters that I consider to good and pick apart what they do and see if I can use it. Read Lanny Basshams book "With Winning in Mind" It was the best book I have read on the subject. I don't do everything he wants a shooter to do like keeping a log, but he has a grasp on the issue unlike no other.
Get your wife into air rifle then you will have a full time spotter for life. My wife used to shoot with me in IHMSA and the other guys hated to see her show up because she normally beat them. Spotters are a whole different issue and lord knows I am learning to be nicer to mine, whom ever it is at the moment. I'm trying to get my wife to start spotting for me again. Who could you trust more, hell she wants to see you win .
