HANGER BAR SYSTEMS

HELP !!
Can a hanger bar system like VV or Bullberry has be used without cutting dovetails into the underside of the barrel. I guess what I want to do is use a couple of forends I had Bullberry make for their barrels on some T/C barrels I have. If I cut the dovetails when I sell the barrel the forend needs to be sold with it also, and once you cut the dovetails on a T/C barrel you loose your warranty. So whats the best method ? Can you make hanger bars that fit in the Bullberry forends w/o cutting the dovetails ?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for your time & help.

I am a little cofused but this is what I can tell you about hanger bars. First they are an "add on" not a replacement for standard dovetail mounting. The typical and standard TC mounting for a foreend on a Contender is either one or two dovetail mounted nuts in the underside of the barrel. There are two basic configurations of the 'two screw' type ....one is  that the nuts are about 3 1/8" center to center (called 14" spacing) ...the other is about 3 7/16" (called Super 16 spacing). You can take a TC factory barrel 'add on' a hanger bar and mount a Bullberry, VVCG, Georgia Jim, Pachmyer foreend on it as long as the foreend is properly cut out for it. Most aftermarket 'hanger bar foreends' are cutout to allow for both lengths...they just extend the slot for the bar out to accomodate both 14" and 16" spacing.

You can buy a Bullberry, VVCG barrel that has a hanger bar....take the hanger bar off and use the dovetail nuts to mount a factory style foreend on it .....

All factory Contender barrels that I have ever seen come with dovetail nuts mounted underside of the barrel !

Clear as mud ??

I assume soup is talking about an encore barrel- they dont use the dovetail nuts- the screws thread right into the barrel. :D

soup,

Virgin Valley made a hanger bar system that can be used with factory barrels, in effect allowing factory barrels to be used with Virgin Valley and Bullberry forends to be used. I am not sure where you can get these now that Virgin Valley is out of buisness. Good Luck.

see the pics @   http://Banned Site/TC/index.htm   for the difference in Bullberry and Virgin Valley bars

I sent them to Chuck and he posted them.  Bullberry uses the dovetailed nuts on their barrels and the short bar . Virgin Valley uses dovetails for a while then went to a longer bar that screw to factory holes. The Bullberry forearm uses 1 screw to hold to bar while VV used 2. You can contact Steve Straton the old office manager of VV @ 1-435-229-7561 or blksheep@infowest.com  he may beable to ream your forearms to fit the VV style bar that he sells.

I have a collection of hanger bars from both VVCG and Bullberry....When you call to order them either would ask which spacing you wanted. They are identical. If you have ordered a custom barrel from either of them you would know this..........
