Weaver Grand Slam or Nikon Monarch
« on: May 24, 2005, 09:07:01 AM »
I am about to purchase a new rifle scope and wanted to see if anyone has compared these scopes.  I have had several Nikon Buckmaster scopes and I was hoping to step it up a little.  I am looking at the 3-9or10x40 scopes but I am also considering the fixed 6x in the Nikon or the 4.75x in the Weaver.  Also thinking of the 2-7 in the Nikon.  I would like a smaller size scope because my gun is smallish.

Any opinions or sugestions will be appreciated.

The Weaver GS are good scopes, but for the money I'd buy a Nikon Monarch or Elite 4200 every time.

I'm a little hesitant getting a fixed scope.  In years past, and I'm talking about 30, 40 years ago, the 4x fixed power scope was the standard, especially over any variable scope because the variables were not as reliable as the fixed.  However, today the variables are just as reliable and durable as the fixed, AND you get variable magnification.  As such, I would get a 2x-7x over a fixed 6x.
