Marlin introduced a smaller version of the Guide Gun in .44 Mag with a 16" ported barrel and straight stock, back in I think 2000. Then they dropped it from their lineup, anyone know why?

I own a M1895 G and absoultely love it. I would have thought a .44 Mag Guide Gun would have been a great seller.

wasnt a good seller it was a sweat little gun. In my opinion it would have done alot better if it wasnt ported

I managed to get one a few years ago and love the little gun except for the stupid ports. Not needed with the .44 magnum and just makes it louder to the shooter and annoys those next to you at the shooting range. Marlin marketeers seemed to want to make make it a baby guide gun and put the ports in like the .45-70. If they ever bring it back they could save some money and drop the ports. Maybe call it the trapper model or something. Short of that I would take a 20" inch barrel one and have it shortened because it is one sweet package to carry especially in thick cover.

Marlin made a special run of 1,550 of these w/out ports back in 1996. Sadly, the one pictured below isn't mine. I do wish they'd bring this one back.

Went and shot mine last Tuesday - was on vacation - mine has the Ashley Ghost Ring set-up and Burris Scout Scope - trigger / action job and a Kick-Eze pad. Very accurate, much fun to shoot.

Worked on my ghost ring set-up - then went to the scout.

Ports don't bother me - just the neighbors at the range.

Boy!!!! that little fellow is sexier than a one eyed cut worm. I had the winchester trapper and wasn't very happy with it, But if i had that one it wouldent leave my grip for nothing, There is a lady from Marlin on another post taking suggestions, Maybe some of you guys that can spell could go up and put your order in,,,OOps mine too. I have considered buying a 20 inch or a octogonal barreled one, and haveing a custom shop chop it down to 16...Like with anything, the money is the real issue...

I had one with ports and it was a pain in the ass every time you forgot to pull your ear muffs down.....which where a must beacuse it was that loud. I put 1100 odd rounds through mine, it was my first experience with the .44 mag round and I was impressed when it hit gam in close, made them leak out like a garden hose.

I would just get the one with the 20" barrel, may get another one of these days.

I bought one of the little 1894's with ported barrel last april. It was in mint condition, and check out the wood on that stock!!!

Got a real deal on it too, paid only $275, i just ordered a lever-scout mount for it to make it into a scout-carbine...will take a complete picture when i get it all finished up... I agree with the others, i could do without the ports, they sure make it noisy. Funny thing is, i saw a ported .357 Mag at the same show...ya have to wonder, why in the world would anyone really need a ported .357 Rifle? Guess the engineers thought it would sell more guns...[/url]

I have an 1894P (with ports) and I put an Ashley Outdoors scout mount and a Leupold EER 2x scope on it. Sighting with both eyes open is easy and no problem aiming at something just a few feet away. You will like this setup. One of the best things I've done.

I bought my 1894P brand new, and it will never be traded. A local gun shop got in three guide guns at the same time...a 45/70, a .444 and the .44 Mag. I picked the .44, put a Williams receiver sight on it, and it is a joy to shoot. It'll put 270 Speer Gold Dot SP's into 1" groups all day long. The noise from the porting has never bothered me. It is my hog gun of choice. Mine also has a pretty nice piece of wood on it.

thanks for that info...i look forward t ogetting this one done, i like the scout rifle idea. I ended up with a 2.5x Leupold scout scope a while back , and i plan on putting it on that 1894.

I paid 300 for mine, complete with a ashley scout mount, 2.5 springfield armory scout scope. It was one of my better deals. A local gun shop has a nice ported brl gun (no-scope) that can be had for $360 if someone whats one. 1894p are very compact, no recoil with ported brl. My 8yr son can burn through rounds all day long. I shoot mostly hard cast handloads through it. And just clean up any lead/powder residue around the ports.
If your a marlin fan, you will luv the little 1894p.

I have a P and it's not for sale.great little brush buster and with the ballard rifling makes shooting cast a breeze.heard all the horror stories about the ports leading up and too loud ect ect.

I hate to reply to the same post twice, but I don't understand the problem people are having with the ports. You couldn't pry my 1894P out of my hands. Love it! Shoots great! That short barrel is perfect for crawling around in the palmettos looking for hogs.

I do not like the porting either...there is another short barreled carbine out there, Its the 1894S...its also known as The MARLIN LIMITED. Its chambered in the 45COLT caliber and NO PORTS!!
