I'm a West Coaster living on Vancouver Island. Hunt what I can when I can. Lot's of bears, our deer are comming back and with a lot of luck we've got some incredible Elk opportunities. Fish'n ain't bad either.

I've never watched "The Red Green" Show but remember way back watching "The Red Fisher Show". Anybody else remember that old one. Will I be deported if I mention that I also have never voluntarily watch an entire NHL game. :-)

eroyd:

Welcome aboard!

Actually, the Red Green character was started as a parody of Red Fisher back on the old Smith and Smith show.  At that time I didn't enjoy it, because I saw it as a put down of outdoorsmen.  Since then its taken a life of its own, and is a parody on anything that comes in view.

Red Fisher, is he still kicking?
I think I saw most of his shows, even the corney ones.

Yeah the show was pretty corny, especially when weighed against modern outdoors shows but I still remember those famous shore lunches where even the divers were invited  Last time I saw that show was some thirty years ago and Red was pretty old then. (or I was pretty young)

He did a few hunts as well. I veagley remember a moose hunt.

Makes me want to break out dad's old wool Mack Jacket.

I seem to recall an episode on mule deer hunting as well, but I think Red was primarily a fisherman.  I think he was advertised as being in the fishing hall of fame.

Butler:

I hunt the thick stuff in Ontario, and here you can lose as many as 75% of your shots to unseen intervening brush.  In those circumstances, a quick follow-up shot is an absolute necessity.  Levers, slides and autos can deliver a follow-up in about half the time a bolt can.

There have been many occasions in my life, when I used a bolt, that missed great shooting opportunities because I was working my bolt.

I actually find that I'm at my best when using an autoloader.  I guess I must subconsciously anticipate having to work the lever or slide, and lose concentration on my shot as I pull the trigger.  With an auto, I just point and shoot, and if it doesn't fall down, shoot again.

I am from MARATHON ONTARIO that is halfway between Thunder Bay and Sault Ste Marie. I hunt moose here. I hunt deer around Thunder Bay. I've hunted small game and migratory birds since I was but a wee lad. My grandfather used to be an outfitter and a guide for hunters and fisherman in the Lake of the Woods area. He started me and my brother hunting ducks, grouse and deer and fishing for walleye, bass, crappie, lake trout etc and I have never lost the outdoor bug.  This is certainly a good site. I'll let a few of my buddies in on it as long as they don't tell any stories about me......

:-D  :) Hey Rick:

In a previous post you say that you hunt the thick stuff.  Damn boy, I've been looking to get me a license to hunt politicians for a long time.  Where did you get yours?

Greetings all Canadians.  It looks like we might have just enough Canucks to go back over the border and burn down the White House; AGAIN :-D .

Born in Edmonton, Alberta.  Raised all around the world, not including the Orient.

I've been hunting Northern Alberta for the past 25 years.  Lucky me, with my wife for the past 13   .

A public relations man by profession and a cowboy action shooter and hunter by choice.

I have many calibers. My favorite is 45-70.  My gun smith is making me a double rifle in 45-70.  I can hardly wait.

Anyone use a 375 HH?  Any suggestions for bullet style and weight for moose in this caliber?  The shot can be anywhere from 25-350 yards.

Kindest regards,
Carpediem

Westcoaster! Born in Vancouver.
Hunt mostly moose nowadays. Have hunted deer for years, bloody regulations getting complicated. Trap shoot, fish, prawn. Will do 2nd annual Goose hunt in Alberta this Sept. (now thats goose hunting!)

I do handloading for rifle and shotgun. Spend hours pouring over hunting/ shooting forums every week on the old computer.

New to the board, I'm from the Republic of Alberta. Firearms/hunter safety instructor. Guide/outfitter specializing in calling all types of predators and migratory birds. I like black labs and Ruger guns. I know they aren't very accurate. :-D But the coyotes don't know that.

Looks like a good site guys.Way too much info here for a backwoods, low tech redneck. I'll do my best to wade through it. :-)

Live on Vancouver Island, fishing and hunting are my passions, whitetails, muleys, moose are my staple diet, interspersed with a little fish.  I quit my job after 20 yrs in the pursuit of happiness to hunt and fish.  With Gun control about to be enforced, I figure fewer people will jump through the hoops and my hunting chances should get better, thanks Ottawa!

Hey Guys,

You can add another "Newf" to the mix. Can't say "Canadian" 'cause I'm too embarrased. The actions of the "Cretin" Government and the disrespect shown to our oldest ally is unforgivable.

Rant aside, I'm proud to say I'm a Newfoundlander, born and bred here on "The Rock." Grew up hunting and fishing. Moose, Caribou, Bear, Ducks/Geese, Partridge, Grouse and Bunnies every Fall. Brook Trout, Sea Trout (Sea-Run German Browns) and Salmon in the Spring and Summer.

Used to fish for Cod, but the B*$T*RD$ in Ottawa sold us out to Foreign Factory-Freezer Trawlers.

I'm located on the Northwest Tip of the Avalon Peninsula, about an hour and a half from the Capital city of St. John's.

Besides hunting, I do lots of handgun shooting, reloading and casting.

Regards,
Sean

Hi All,  :D
I just found this board so I thought I'd drop a Howdy. I'm from Cowtown, though recently moved to Vancouver. I'd sure be greatful to anyone in the lower mainland looking for a "non-resident" hunting partner, or someone willing to point me in the right direction out there. It sure ain't Alberta. I've got a few questions about the regs too.

Displaced Canuck checking in
« Reply #57 on: August 26, 2003, 05:43:16 PM »
Just found this site a couple of days ago, and just found this thread today! Hi y'all!

I  moved to New Mexico from Vancouver Island to marry an old flame and just got my permanent residence (Green Card). My wife just got hooked on shooting last week when she fired a T/C Contender and whacked two pigs out of three shots at a silhouette range.

I still think of myself as a Canuck, but happy to be in a place where I can actually walk out of a gunshow carrying the piece I just paid hard cash for and not have to play any paperwork games with the feds! Also have always wanted to try handgun hunting - a totally verboten endeavor in my home and native land!

I'm gonna have to have two gun cabinets, one in NM and one in BC 'cuz now it is becoming a hassle to carry them across the line in either direction.

Hunted Whitetails, rabbits and grouse, when I lived in Ontario, ducks, rabbits, grouse, pheasants and anything with antlers in Alberta, (when I was a kid in the 60's one could purchase tags for Mule, Whitetail, Moose, Elk, and Caribou and stand a good chance of getting at least one in the freezer, and get change from a $20!)

Chased Muleys and Moose when I lived in Kamloops, then Island deer on Vancouver Island, as well as two seasons spent in the Queen Charlottes as a float plane pilot.

Any other displaced Canucks around?

Just found this site and must say its one of the better ones.  So, I'll post some info--better late than never I suppose.  I'm just north of Sudbury, Ontario.  Worked for about 30 yrs with the MNR in Fish & Wildlife, retired and am now outfitting for bear only.  Do a fair amount of handloading, bench rest, shoot my BP 58 Cal at the range just to aggravate and blind the handgunners, hunt moose with my 7mm Rem Mag and deer with my Ruger No 1 in .280 Rem.  and will icefish my brains out whenever I get the chance.

« Reply #59 on: October 26, 2003, 12:34:01 PM »
I live in Houston, central B.C. 4 hrs west of Prince George a beatiful area most of hunting is for moose, black bear&deer. I managed to draw for an early sept moose hunt, this gave me a 2 wk period  so with plenty of time I took one of my Swede 96s sighted it in started scouting around as luck would have it, day 1 a 3yr old bull cooperated. The old mausers still work great. now for the rum. p.s. my mags are getting dusty
