243/ 6mm cast bullets
« on: May 31, 2005, 12:26:05 PM »
does anyone cast bullets un 243 / 6 mm or know any company that cast for them?

I would like to try them out of my 243 winchester encore barrel.

I really can not hunt with this barrel so cast bullets may be good for paper punching

I've got the Lee mold for 80-85grn gc. Not real pretty but shoots OK out of my .243.

243 Cast Bullets``

Hey Kingfish and Robert, Memory at our age is a fleeting thing.

I have one tid bit to add on the bullets.  One guy posted that a 120 grain bullet was available.  That may be too long to stabilize in a 1:10 or 1:12 twist barrel.  However, I'm certain that a 120 grain bullet will be way over the stability zone.

I have considered cast bullets in my 243.  I used to shoot the 25-05 with cast bullets.  In that caliber, I used a 100 grain Saeco bullet with the long DD nose.  According to the Greenhill theory, it was too long, but my gun didn't know that.

I used wheelweights and 2% tin added in my 25 and they ran out on the Chronograph at 2245 fps with no leading and very accurate.

My success with the 25 has made me think about the 243 with cast bullets.

I just wanted to add that with my 85grn gc'ed bullet, 21.5grns H4198 was a accurate load for my gun at around 2200fps.
