How reliable is the .243 with 107's in knocking down rams? I have heard both it works and it won't even budge them. Thanks for any info

Too many variables exist for an exact answer. The condition of the Rams and the target stands has as much to do with knock down as any other factor. That being said, you are getting to the area of the bottom limits for bullet weight and momentum with the .243. Play the game long enough and you will have a ram shake off a good hit no matter what you use, it is all part of the variables. When it happens don't make a fool of yourself ;~)

If you have a .243 shoot it and see how it does for yourself. If you are planning on one to shoot silhouette I would not bother.

If you do shoot a .243 I would try to acquire some of Tubb's 115gr bullets. Rams only make up ten of the animals but it is frustrating to hit an animal and watch it stand.

I asked a similar question awhile back when Tubb's 115gr bullet first came out. Search the archives to see what was said about a 6mm.

At the Australian Nationals in 2003 one of our shoters hit 5/5 rams with a 6mm REM and you guessed it didn't knock any over. If you are starting out just shoot and enjoy it but as TROY G says as a long term option the 243 isn't a ideal choice. I'm a bad enough shot that I can't afford to loose any animals. It is very frustrating to ring Rams as they are hard even to hit. But as said before just go out and get into it as shooting steel is one of the great pleasures of life.
