Well i'll use this for all my reports.

Pouring rain, wind, and bad cases was the theme today. While i couldn't comduct OCW tests i was proud of a nice 1" groups@100yrds with 43.6gr of Varget on a Nosler Ballistic Tip 165gr through a fogged up Nikon Pro-Staff 3-9x40 scope. Even though i know my POA was off for each shot cause i couldn't see the center target fully i kept all 3 bullets on the mark.

I tried to buy some 110gr Varminter bullets but no-one ever thought to carry them, Gander Mountain was the worst by far.

Hey good shooting there and congrats...even with the bad weather you did ok. I know gander mountian here where I live really suck with having reloading stock. I was there a couple of weeks ago and not much for .223 and 25-06 stuff. I been getting most of my stuff from mid south now.

Weird as it may seem, reloaders are a small section of the firearms/ammunition market. What I have never been able to figure out is that we probably spend a bigger portion of our money on firearms and reloading supplies for them than do the rest of the shooters out there. Go figure. Trouble is stocking everything that s customer would want on waling in the door.

308 caliber 110 grain bullets are an oddity, if I were stocking a reloading department, I wouldn't stock this item, I'd put the money is something that would sell better. A lack of 223 and 25 caliber components is surprising. Was it asked if the components were simply out of stock?

I too mail order/internet shop practically all my supplies, but because the nearest store carrying reloading supplies is 40 miles away. I can pay shipping cheaper than I can pay for gas, and be sure that what I want is in stock before I place an order.

well yea i guess it;s better to stock what'll sell, but they had nothing in the line of case trimmers/trimmer needs. which i have little idea of what all i need in the first place, help.

The Lee case trimmer is really inexpensive and extremely easy to use, commonly available....It's my first choice!!!

Yes I asked them, not only once but a few times if they were out of stock. They were even out of 150 grain SST and SP for 30 cal for over a month. They said well we can order it for you and I said I can order it to and then I dont have to make a trip back down to your store. You would think they would have common stuff but not the case here anyway. Guess its why I order from midsouth.

so thats all i need minus the decapper and base. DO i need the power tool shown? whats the diff between chamfer and deburring toolS?

The champfer/deburring tool is just one tool, use the pointed end for champfering the inside of the case mouth and the open end for deburring the outside of the case mouth. The powder tool is just to speed things along. I use a cordless screwdriver on mine. I've read of others using a drill and even a drill press for power. The power tool drives the hex on the lock collar, first the case is trimmed to length, then the champfer/deburr tool is used while the case is still in the lock ring. It doesn't take long to do 50 cases.

Yea im not that dumb...well sometimes :grin: . I had planned on ordering 110gr Varminter bullets but i find case care more important now, I'll just order 110grs with 8mm brass-n-bullets.

No, but it sure makes it faster and easier.

Also, note the trimming tool. It has a straight shaft with a small area that is knurled for a better grip. You use the same trimmer for all calibers, so I recommend that you get the type that has a hardwood ball on the grip. Lee makes one, but if you can't get one, you can buy a hardwood ball at the hobby store and drill the approppriate size hole and epoxy it it.

I once had numb fingers for a week after trimming 500 cases without the ball! :shock:

I got out to my hunting grounds and did some "deer range" off hand shooting. After 2 foulers i could pop off clay pigeons easily as long as i did my part as well. Then laying on a pile of fire wood i tried 3 new 110gr Varminter bullets and to my pleasure a nice 1.010" group, would be much smaller but the last shot my hold was not on the bullseye. This experience told me to remove my Nikon 3-9x40 and find a 4x fixed or a low powered, no more than 5x, variable. Reason is the shootin was done at 4x.

Just for the heck of it i also shot a steel "gong" at roughly 50yrds with a High-Point 9mm Carbine and a .45 1911. (1/2" thick ,with many 8mm mauser holes, steel plate)

I got a Trimmer w/Ball from Midway $ 3 or $4, Made by Lee.
Got two other cutters, Gona get dowel about 4 " then dill a hole
glue cutter in a hole in the end!

yes i am and it has proven to me the reliablity of this fine rifle. I'm kinda curious, since the H&R/NEF's like a rest on the hinge on the bench whats there preference off hand??

I got the Lee trimmer and lock stud and .308 gauge/shell holder then a RCBS inside outside deburring tool.

No more H&R trigger time for a while :cry: reason being my fatha (the only one who shoots in the family aside from me) has to do his work on the weekends which, curse thier new boss, is the only time we can goto the range.

another range day. This time the only real substantial thing was i shot at 200yrds for the 1st time. I fired just 3 Sierra 110gr Varminters and the first shot landed about 2" off center but level with the center. 2nd was closest under an inch and the 3rd went left an inch or more. no bigger than a 5" group which for untested first time rounds and first 200yrd shooting not bad. next time im gonna try my Speer SBT and Nosler ballistic tips.
