.17 HRM shooter

Got to shoot my Hummer barrel yesterday. Started out dissapointing. First 2 , 3 shot grouped about an inch at 25 yds. Then scope wouldn't adjust, had to jar the scope with plastic hammer,lightly of course. Heard somewhere, sometimes old scopes that haven't been used for while, the adjustments stick on them. Anyway it worked.
In the end, 2, 3 shot groups were hole touching cloverleafs at 25 yds. off a bench using Rem. V-max 20gr.. It only took about 25 shots to settle in the bore. Lucky me.

Ahem....that's a good start, but the 17hmr isn't a 25yd caliber. Our postal match rules moved it to the 100yd range since it's too accurate to compete with any other rimfire except maybe the 17M2 at 50yds. Even it should be shot at 100yds to judge it's accuracy. The Sportster is capable of moa or better accuracy once you get the barrel broke in well, so don't settle for what you have so far, it's capable of far more.... :wink: I think you'll see that the 20gr bullets aren't Vmax, but XTPs...if they are Vmax, then they are 17gr. It's a good idea to try all 17hmr ammo that's available to you, there are several loads made, some will shoot much better than others. Midsouth has all of the available options except Remington and Winchester...Please note that they list the 17M2 ammo on the same page with the 17hmr ammo.

Thanks for your reply quickdtoo.
I studied  the .17HRM to be sure it was what I wanted. I know it's capabilities and mine since I been shooting for over 50 years.
I always sight in my rifles at 25 yds.. Then you have a pretty good idea of how this paticular rifle is going to shoot. Then you sight in your zero at whatever range to suit the caiber. Saves a lot of time and ammo in the long run.
My mistake on the ammo used; .17 HRM Rem. 17 gr. V-Max boatail. I have 5 different loads in the cabinet, got confused.
As to 2, 3 shot cloverleaf that measured a .210 in. average is a little better than a good start.
