a friend of mine purchased this gun from walmart for $100, but hes not had it long enough to know if it is dependable. i would be using it for light field hunting...

i have heard/read that the scope slides around... could this just be glued into place?

Do you mean the Daisy/Winchester 1000x? Just checked the Daisy web site and the only two Powerlines are the 901 & 953. If it's the break barrel cocker than it may be sufficient for light hunting. They are made in South America and their dependability is questionable. Gluing the scope down won't help. The mounts need to be replaced with ones that will stay in place. Lawdog

I have one of these also. Mine is marked Powerline 1000.. and is made in Turkey. Good shooting gun. It should have came with a small metal plate and a screw to be used as a scope stop. If not one can be bought or a buy a good set of mounts that wont slide. I've put about 2500 rds thru mine with out any problems. Its a 'good' gun, but I wouldnt say its a 'great' gun!

The 1000S is the scope-package version of the 1000x. Probably one of the Hatsan guns, made in Turkey, most are. Not a real good gun. Cocking effort, recoil and trigger pull are all pretty high. If your buying the gun save your money for something better. You won't be happy with it. For $100 you can get a real nice older .20 Sheridan C model or a Crosman 1400. Those you will never regret buying.

i looked around for info on those... having trouble finding much. can you link me to a page that might have either/both of them for sale? wat kind of fps do they pack? scope included? etc.

The Winchester 1000 is imported by Daisy under the Winchester name and like I said before the newer ones aren't near as good as the older versions that Daisy originally imported. I haven't heard anything good about the scope or mounts. Everyone that I know that bought one ended up replacing both(mounts first). They advertise these rifles to get 1000 fps. but dont you believe it. More like 850 at best using the very lightest weight pellet you can find. For rifles in this price range there are better choices. Lawdog

I have a Daisy Powerline 1000s and it is definitely magnum air rifle! As far as being worth the money; 100 bucks for the rifle as well as a good 3-9x32 scope! Apparently those that have put down this rifle either do not own one or have one of the older brazilian made ones. This model is the Hatsan, made in Turkey version; which if purchased from a Hatsan dealer under that name retails for over 200 bucks., gun alone! So, this is an excellent deal. Several tests have been performed on it's power and accuracy and many have cronied it in the 9-950 FPS range with CPLites. So, if a less grain lighter weight pellet were used, the 1000fps would be attainable. Accuracy depends on getting used to and controlloing the recoil, as it does have strong recoil.

As far as the scope being hard to stay in place; I first had that problem but found that I just needed to tighten it very tight and that fixed it; no more loosening. Some do use glue or even Loc-tite.

Then I guess Daisy got the hint and dumped on the Brazilian air rifle manufacture(they were out an out junk, about as bad as Gamo) and patched things up with Hatsan(the original maker of the Winchester 1000X). Smart move that some of the other companies need to take heed of(Beeman for example - They need to patch things up with Theoben). Good luck with that Daisy scope, they have a history of breaking. Yeah Lawdog, know what you mean. Daisy definitely used their heads in making the move to Hatsan and away from that Brazilian "junk". I heard a whole bunch of horror stories on those.

From what I gather they have upgraded the scope setup somewhat from the older ones as well. The ones now have better mounts as well as sight see-thru. However, I am still leary of it sucumbing to the recoil anyday now. lol.

I bought one of the Daisy 1000s. I had to replace the scope mounts(with $7 Bushnell mounts from Wal-Mart) and then Loc-Tite everything into place but it has proven accurate and reliable since. I haven't chronographed it but it does out penetrate a Benjamin in phone books.
