Author Topic: Red Dot for a Crossbow (Read 1025 times)

Well I am the first to admit I am not that big of a fan of reddot sights on rifles and pistols they just do not seem to shoot the tight groups I can get out of a peep sight or regular scope. BUT I tried one that Gander Mountain sells that is a stacked 3 dot sight for the crossbow. A friend had it on a crossbow they bought for his dad and they both did not like the idea of a battery ect in fact they left it on and the battery went dead and they did not realize it. The dad went out to his stand anddid not realize the battery went dead on the sight. He normally left it off until he saw or heard a deer near his stand. A buck came in and he turned on the sight and opps no dots needless to say he was not impressed. THis prompted them to buy a regular scope no batteries to deal with. I knew this so I offered to buy this dot sight off of them for 35 bucks. Well these dot sights sell for around 60 bucks at Gander Mountain and I bought this one from them for 35 bucks. I shot it on their crossbow and the dot system really does work if you sight it in at 20 yards for the first dot than the next is on at 30 and the other at 40 ect. My Barnett Crossbow Came with really cheap red dot that worked good enough for me to kill two deer with it but it was like one of those 10 dollar red dots you see not very good. SO I am looking forward to getting this one sighted in on my crossbow. For 35 bucks I could not pass it up. I shot it well on their crossbow so I am sure it will work fine for me. They were happy to sell it and I was happy to get it so it worked out for every one. Jim

Well I called Ten Point and they make the dot sights for GanderMountain and they come in a package with the bow. You cannot order them separate from Gander Mountain but you can from them. Anyway since my Barnett is not as fast as the 10 point the lady I talked to said to sight the bow in at 15 25 and 35 yards instead of 20, 30 , 40. Also since all three dots move at the same time when you adjust she said to sight in using the middle dot instead if the top one so I should sight it in at 25 yards first. Then the 15 and 35 should be on. Glad I called them as I would have tried to sight it in with the top dot instead of the middle one. Jim

I have had a red dot scope on my horton crossbow for 10 years here in AR, and have shot them from 20 yards to 40 yards. there is nothing like fresh doe meat the day you shoot it, love those doe's.

Yea I like Venison so I do not mind taking a doe at all.

I have a red dot (one dot) on my Ten Point Titan. Works very well. I sight in at 30 yds. I can easily hit a deer at forty and fifty yds.

If your sighted in at 30 how much drop do you get at 50?

I use a redot on my Horton, good to 40 yards.....had a cheap BSA last year, swithched to a Bushnell for this year.........
