Author Topic: FINALLY A Rock Solid SKS Scopemount (Read 387 times)

There are a few mosin style scopemounts that can fit the sks and theyare rock soild. I'm mounting one right now and it mounts to the side of the reciever just like on the mosin. Its not that cover mounted rail. I may end up doing some welding to make it even better. I want more clearence so the reciever cover can be removed to clean & lube the bolt carrire/bolt so i may have to raise up the side rail by welding a spacer in it but its not hard to do. I just lowered an early AK scopemount(mosin style) to fit my mosin its the one with the rings not the weaver rail mount. I cut about 1" out of it and welded it and refinished it so you can't tell its been welded. I just want a solid scopemount with the scopes positioned right for shooting/hunting. These guns won't be safe queens they will be used. BB

On my sks i lowered the mount base on the side of the reciever so the stock had to be knotched out about 1/4" but the screws are into the thicker part of the reciever so its rock solid. If the height of the side rail needs to be adjusted for this to come out right so be it. I want it done right and solid and the end result is a mount i can use and it won't fail and remain accurate. Sometimes we just have to take matters into our own hands. I had to come out of retirement and fabricate and weld again.

I hope you will post a few pics. I would like to see how it ends up. I just got a few things for one of my Yugos. I got a folding stock for it and a scout scope mount. I have not put them on yet, but, I will tommorow.

Alot of the pics I see with the folding stocks on them are not Yugos, it will work with the Yugo right? I know alot of people do not like the folding stocks, but, I liked the way it looked and being able to fold it up for some rapid shoots on the old washing machines should be fun too.

But, will the folding stock work on my Yugo 59/66? I have taken the bayo off so that will not be a issue. What can you tell me bill? Your the pro.

It should fit if anything it may need minor fitting between the front bracket that captures the stock to the rear of the reciever were the trigger housing loc goes down thru the stock. Sometimes that distance is a little short so the inside of the rear of the stock needs filing. Some of them may need to shorten the front too to adjust the distance shorter too. My dragunov sks stock needed fitting in that area and some of the wood stocks aren't exactly the same too and they needed fitting too. So that tells me there is no set inside distance on any sks even though they can be the same manufacturer. That kind of tells me they fit each barreled reciever to each stock then pin the front bracket when they assemble it. This is why my box of extra chinese stocks don't interchange each one is unique. Sorry sometimes i leave some information out of my posts i have a box of used sks stocks that don't interchange. On the Chinese it seems with the screwed barreled recievers and pinned barreled recievers they are different in the stocks too. Even if i match up a used screwed in barrel stock with a screwed in barrel reciever most of the time they need fitting too. Yet some are close and will go together too. I just went thru this trying to find a replacement stock for a cracked stock sks. Then you figure in the difference between the 16" barrel and the 20" barrel too, confused yet? Just food for thought on finding a replacement stock if one ever runs into a problem. BigBill

BTW; After my search for a stock on one gun ended, i ended up using gorrilla glued on the orginal stock and repaired it too.
