Daniel Boone, hunter, trapper, Indian fighter began to explore Kentucky on this day, June 7, 1769.
Six years later he brought the first settlers to Kentucky and founded the fort of Boonesboro.
He was captured by the Shawnee Indians and taken to Detroit.
There learned the British had incited an Indian attack on the Kentucky settlement.
He escaped and his warning saved the town.
As to his faith, Boone wrote to his wife in October of 1816:
"The religion I have is to love and fear God, believe in Jesus Christ, do all the good to my neighbor, and myself that I can, do as little harm as I can help, and trust on God's mercy for the rest."

Daniel was forsaken by Kentucky. He died penniless ,I believe in Missouri-but oweing nothing to any man.It wasn't till later that Kentucky honored the man that helped in building it.

There not even 100% sure where he's buried.  Two places claim to hold Daniel's remains.  One place was his original burial site but he was supposedly moved at a latter date but it is claimed the wrong grave was moved.

They still take tours through his near St. Louis off hwy 94 near St. Charles Missouri..  Pretty interesting tour. They say he is buried around Marthasville Missouri, not far from his home, I beleive.  I know there is a sign on hwy 42 pointing to his supposed burial site.  I think I have my facts straigt.  Regardless, his homestead and tour is very interesting and worth one's time, if you are ever in the St. Charles, St. Louis area.
