My daughter has both a pardner and a handi and I had thought about getting a 410/45 colt barrel until I heard all the negative things here about accuracy with the 45 colt. but then I was browsing cabelas shooting catalog last night and came across some brass .410 casings. would these remedy the problem of the long jump to the rifling with the 45 colt??
I have no experience with the 45 colt. can these brass shotshells be loaded with a 45 colt bullet?? Inquiring minds want to know.

HMMMMMM. I must have body odor or bad breath. nobody wants to chime in and maybe keep me from getting myself killed by loading a 452 bullet in a brass 410 shotshell case. :cry:

sorry i just didn't see the thread. what your talking about has been done foe years and in most cases has been great and for ohio legale.

im not to sure about the 410 shells. But Huchhandiman was talking about
loading with a 445 mag case or something like that would get the bullet closer to the rifleing mite check some of his post or pm him. Rich

With the introduction of the 460 S&W, your supposed to be able to shoot 454 casulls and 45 colts in the chamber. Since this 45/410 barrel has such a long throat couldn't you just shoot 454's or 460's in the chamber? It may be alittle more expensive but not if you reload.Would this work?

I like that idea. If you stayed in the pressure ranges of the orignal chamberings, I think it would be safe. And anything that would get the bullet closer to the rifling would be an improvement. If you go this way, let us know how it works. I might have to get one of these barrels and try it too.

thanks for the replies. I may get that barrel and experiment a little. she has a .223 for deer but there are some hogs in our hunting area and I thought a heavier bullet might be more effective on them. good deer bullet too.

For a while, it was not uncommon for Contender shooters to load .452 bullets in .444 brass, as it is merely long 45 Colt brass tapered to fit .429 bullets. You would want to fire-form them to your chamber, I suppose, as i have had bad luck trying to put .452 bullets in odd cases. I could not fire-form as i had no chamber to do it in.

I don't know what you can do about sights.

I have a .45/410bbl survivor it's one fun bbl. I load mine with .45colt cases loaded to .45acp bullseye loads, no recoil. I also load hot .45colt (tc and ruger loads) some recoil, primers are not flat primeros no sticking cases ( they get thrown several feet by the ejector ). I also use the .445sm cases using .445sm data bullet weight to powder weight. When making up the first rounds ( .445sm to .452 ) bell and lube the neck after fireforming just resize in .45colt dies adjusted for length. In my bbl I didn't get excessive pressure signs and accuracy did improve. Hope this helps......lost

No on the 45Lc barrel.

IIRC, the .410/.45 barrel is a rifled barrel with a screw in choke tube and only has a bead front sight, no rear sight and isn't drilled and tapped for a scope rail or rear sight.

They DO have a fully rifled 410 slug barrel though.
I agre with 45LCshoooter about the 444 Marlin brass. I did some experimenting with them in my 45/410 Contender. To fireform the brass, just used 44 cast bullets with 44 mag starting loads, then loaded 455-70 'Trapdoor' loads or starting loads for 45-70. This was bouncing around the internet a few years back. The guy that was mostly pushing these loads was calling it the '450 Mongo'. They seemed to work fine. I didn't have any pressure problems in the Contender, but I never tried a full 45-70 load.
