I write this before I go and look at that link,
Typically the 357 Max is thought of as a pistol round. It was invented for one purpose and one purpose only, to knock down sillywets. It was meant to be used with heavy bullets and will duplicate 357 Magnum rifle velocities from a 10-12" barrel. You can add 250-325 fps to data developed in a pistol length barrel to get an idea of what the load will do.
Energy and trajectory wise, the 357 Max from a rifle is so close to performing like the 30-30 it ain't funny.
I know you got one and know these things, others may not and may not even look at the link. It continues to surprise me that neither Winchester nor Marlin ever chambered a lever in this. After the fiasco of Ruger stopping production of their revolver because of top strap cutting (another discussion) I figure that the Max became a pariah. Sad really. It makes a great short range rifle cartridge.
Edit:
I recently read an online article by "Hobie" on his 357 Max Contender Carbine, but don't recall the site, I'll try to find it, a good article.
