a cheap easy convenient target

all you need is two 4x8 sheets of that pink 2" foam.  cut them into three equal size pieces each so you have six equal sized pieces.  bunji strap them together and shoot at the face of it.  it doesnt have two finger arrow removal.....but you can get them out easy and they last a long time.  plus its light and easy to take with you into the woods to practice from your stand.  it'll cost ya about 6.00 to get the foam.  and if you sink an arrow way deep into it....you just disassemble it.  only times ive sunk too deep is with a broad head hitting the same hole repeatedly.  get the denser of the foams.

you can tell i aint broke down and bought a block yet.... :)

To get my wife and I ready for this years hunt I made "3-d" targets for us.  I used  pink foam and berber carpet scrounged from the dumpster of a flooring place.  Put the whole thing together with a tube of liquid nails and drywall screws.  I know, the hog target looks like and arrdvark... :D

Good idea. How long do they last??
I may make one for a long shot target.
I've had my block for 5 years and it is still going strong.  I can't tell you how many thousands of shot it has taken.  But only about 10 broadheads shots.  I have another cheap target for that.  I wish I never would have put a broadhead thru it, they loss their integrity quickly with blades.

Two years so far, once the foam gets shot up, peel off the face, and glue on new foam.

my simplistic ones that aren't glued are good for a long time.  ive put probably over 1000 arrows in it so i move the bullseye around.  and i just take em apart and put the sheets in a different order and its pretty new again.  depends how many arrows you fling but i shoot probably 200 feild tips to 3 broadheads in it as a ratio....and its still going strong.  id guess 4-5000 hits it'll wind up taking...thats just a guess mind you...i dont keep track that close.

but heck i can put 20 of those together for the price of 1 block.....but i still want a block or block knock-off brand.

Yeah the blocks are pretty handy, nice to just throw in the truck to shoot a few quills when you are on a trip.
I'm going to make one of these targets.
Do they take close shots w/out blowing thru them.

That's the custom thing...if it blows through, use liquid nails to add more layers on the back.

ive never blown through em.  they sink about 12-15" deep in mine @20 yards.  i am shooting 2216s out of my darton at 62 pounds at about 256 fps...finely tuned.

i shoot into it at about 12" as well using same arrows off recurve @ 55# at 10-15 yards.

i shoot the face of the target not the layers on mine.  and im 6 layers thick of 2" med density pink foam

for target or field points, get a 2' square cardboard box, fill it with plastic grocery bags, so tight you have to sit on the box to tape it shut.  You now have a 6lb target that will stop any field point and the arrows almost fall out.

Plus it has six sides to rotate to.

I used to use foam but it ends up making a mess. I use plastic burlap like grass seed sacks filled with old clothes & rags. It never really wears out & when a bag starts falling apart I drop the whole thing in a new sack. Doesnt work well with broadheads tho, it stops them but its a bugger getting them back out.
