I just go a new Lee mold for my 38/55. It says to make sure to lube certain areas with bullet lube . Problem is I use liquid alox and it is not to be used for this purpose. I do have mold release. Could I use this instead ? I have some lubed bullets that were given to me. Could I scrape the lube of some of them and lube the mold with them ?? How much lube is needed to apply to the areas the look like tonque and groove that make the mold line up properly?? thanks.
Your mould will last much longer and cast better if you apply the mould release to the top of the block and the underside of the sprue plate. I have quit applying it to the inside of the cavities because it reduces the size of the bullet and Lees are generally small to start with.
You got good advice about the birthday candle, but any candle stub you have laying around will do to lube the contact points. Just a touch will do, but repeat every 40-50 casts as you go.
