I have decided I want to buy a SxS Double from Stoeger but cant decide on the style of stock. They have the Uplander w/ pistol grip stock and the Uplander Special w/ straight English stock. I love the double triggers.

Every kind of shotgun I have owned has had the pistol grip style stock and the only straight stock I have is a Marlin guide gun so I don't know how much this would translate to shotguns.

This shotgun would be used for upland game only (i don't know if this helps). Anything else and I would use my Super Black Eagle

If everyone could give me some info of the pro's and con's of each style it would help my decision alot. Thanks

Mine is the Uplander Special with straight grip and double triggers. In general there is no advantage for the straight stock UNLESS you have double triggers. If you have double triggers it is the ONLY choice.

Well buddy I think what you heard before had a ring of truth and the GB himself confirmed it. Strait stock it is.

The soul purpose of the straight grip is to quickly and smoothly allow the hand to slide into position for either trigger use. A pistol grip cramps the hand's movement between the triggers.

BTW for the bucks that little Stoeger is a quite nice gun. Not as smooth or well fitted as more expensive guns but nice in spite of the price. One thing I've found with them is on some the wood is a bit generous and on others it's proportions are quite good. Different stock finishers I assume. The 28 ga. I had seemed almost like a 2x4 in my hands but my current 20 ga. is very slim in the wrist and feels very good. Not like a good English gun or a Spanish or Italian copy of the English guns but it works well.

You will find it very tight and somewhat rough feeling when you get it most likely. If so come back here and I can tell you how to fix that in short order.

OK, the special sounds good to me. Buy the way, what do you think of the changes they made to the Special this year. It is not listed on the website yet but in the factory book they say that the Special is now made by CNC machining the receiver and it also has some kind of plug/cap that surrounds the firing pin to protect it or something. What is that all about?

Prpbably have a dozen or so SxSs that I shoot, all have double triggers. Some have pistol grips, semi pistol grips, and or straight grips. Have shooting SxSs for 50 + years and didn't relize you had to have a straight grip with double triggers. Well guess I'll just enjoy shooting and hunting with all of them in spite of the handicap.

Well, I ordered my Uplander Special the other day. The price was about $350 but they said that when he called Benelli that there was none in the U.S. They were sending the new version in about 45-60 days. Guess I just have to wait.
