Hornady V-Max

I've tried a variety of bullets in my .22-250, including hollow points, soft-pointed spitzers, Nosler ballistic tips, and CT ballistic tips.  While they all shoot pretty good, nothing shoots as well at Hornday V-Max bullets.  Is this just my particular gun's preference, or are they a better bullet?  Are they more consistent with respect to weight, concentricity, length, etc., or is it just my gun?

P.S. - I haven't tried Swift scirrocos , Sierra blitzkings, or any Barnes bullets.  The v-maxs shoot so well, why bother?

Just your rifle.  My .22-250 prefers the Nosler Ballistic Tips.  I have seen two rifles of the same make, model and caliber shoot the same bullet differently.  Lawdog

Yeah, all rifles are different, but my .220 Swift loves them.  In all honesty the only bullets that it dosen't like are Barnes' Burners, and it groups them slightly under an inch at 100 yards.

my 25/06 loves the 75gr v-max hates the 85gr nbt and loves the 100gr nbt. GO FIGURE!!!!!!

My Savage 16, 22-250 Rem. was about a .5 MOA rifle with 55 gr.
NBT's.  I started intial load development with this bullet, since
it is what tops off many of my .223 Rem. loads.  .5 MOA was fine,
and I was settling in on the idea that this was good enough for this
rifle.  I kept reading on the forums that the V-Max bullets were
shooting well in some rifles, and the 50 gr. VMax seemed to
be referenced by several .22-250 shooters.  So I picked up a box, and
loaded up some "a couple of grains under max" loads, with H380.
On the first groups I started to get a BIG smile.  With the Bushnell
cranked up to 24x, I was seeing one ragged hole develop on the
100 yard range target.  I pushed the load up to near max, and
still had one ragged hole.  So I backed down to a  grain below max, to
help barrel life, and it is now my .22-250's favorite load.  The average
5 shot group size is .3 MOA, with this bullet, over H380, in this
rifle.  So there is one more .22-250 Rem. that likes V-Max bullets.

I`ve had excellant results with the V-Max. I`ve also had excellant results with the Serria Blitz Kings. I shoot alot of both.

Sodbuster--V-max bullets in my 22 PPC group right there with Berger. In my 22-250 under .300". When I lived in Colorado my hunting partner and I used them in a variety of varmint rifles--always performing the best. It's not just your rifle. Partly bullet design, concentric jackets, consistent weight. Sierra comes a close second. Let's hope Hornady keeps doing what they are doing so well.

My 22-250 likes those HP 55gr Serria BT bullets and will shoot a three shot group of 1/2" at 100 yds

It's strange.  I love the 20gr. VMAX in my .17Rem. but never seem to try the VMAXs in other calibers.  I guess I'm still hung up on my Sierra HPBTs
and the Nosler Ballistic Tips.  I'm sure they're all about equal.  Best wishes.

my 22-250 likes the 50g v-max best.and i tried so darn hard to get the 52g match bullets to out perform them with different loads but the v-max always came out ahead.all that matters is the end results

I've just bought a BSA Martini Cadet chambered to 25-20.
It actually came with a few 85gn Nosler BT handloads but I think the bullet is too heavy for that cartridge and so am looking seriously at the 75gn V-Max instead.
I even emailed Hornady to check that the bullet would expand properly at the low velocities this cartridge produces and they assured me it would be fine.
Anyone else used the 75gn V-Max for this cartridge or a similar low powered one?
Do other people think that the 85gn BT will open up o.k. even down around the 1400fps impact velocity?
