Contender Twist Rate in a 30 Carbine Barrel
« on: June 11, 2005, 03:26:59 PM »
Hey all:

Does anyone know right off hand what the twist rate is in the 30 Carbine barrels ? I know I saw this somewhere, but now, it eludes me. Thanks in advance as always.

All the best,

Casper_Zip

Midway has some 14" ones on sale right now. Advertising them as 1 in 12". Wish I had the funds to pick one up, think that would be an excellent Contender caliber.

The old factory 10" bull barrels had a 1-10" twist. I recently bought one of the "Super 14" barrels from Midway. They are advertised as 1-12" twist. I bought it to use in IHMSA Unlimited Standing category. I am loading Hornady 150 SP with 13 Gr. of 296. Accuracy is very good. I also had a muzzle brake installed, which made it a really pleasant gun to shoot. One note about MY Midway barrel. It has a very SHORT throat - I had to seat the bullets much deeper in the case than the previous 2 30 Carbine barrels that I have owned (a factory 10" Bull and a 12" TC Custom shop)
