I split my barrel on my Mil-spec 45 ACP. I sent it to Springfield and they received it on June the 2nd. I just got it today with a new barrel and NO CHARGE and No Questions asked.  Great customer service.  :D  :-D  :-D      :D

I don't know what happened, but I had this gun for 3 years and had over 4000 rounds fired in it. So I can't say Springfield did not make it right the first time. As long as they fixed it. That was my only concern.  :D

The split barrel thing is not uncommon with Springfield. I have seen three of them in recent years. The last one belonged to an IDPA shooting buddy. The barrel split at the muzzle. To make matters worse, he had to return the entire gun to Springfield to have the barrel replaced. He got the impression from talking to the rep, that barrel failures were a common occurance. It does look like they would correct the problem that they acknowledge exists.

Savage, mine was split in the middle of the barrel. On top and bottom, how barrel is mounted in the gun.
