Model 336 in 44 magnum, scarce?

I have found a Marlin model 336 in 44 Magnum. Honestly, until I saw it, I thought Marlin had offered only the model 1894 in 44 Magnum.  
 
My question is, are these rare? Are they a better choice than the 1894? Does anyone know the years of production for them?

According to the Brophy book on Marlin Rifles, the 336 in 44 mag was made from 1963 through 1967 when it was dropped from the 336.  

I have never owned one but have seen one or two.  I don't know how many were produced.  The Brophy book also mentions that Marlin had problems making the 336 feed and cycle the short 44 mags in the long 336 action.  Marlin corrected the problem by introducing the new model 1894 in 1969 in an action length that is perfect for the 44 mag and many other pistol caliber cartridges.

I had model 336 "Texan" in the middle '60s which was in .44 magnum.  It was a nice rifle.  Traded it in on a Remington 700 in .30-06.  should have had my head examined...

At one time I had 2. I heard about the feeding problem but never had one with either. I took both out and ran 100 rounds thru each as fast as Icould just to see if they would hang up. One thing I noticed is they are real quiet compared to a pistol.
