Any opinions or experience on a Handi chamber for .280 Remington? I've been enamoured of the cartridge's ballistics for some years but never bought a rifle chambered for it. NEF says that the Handi chambered for it has a 26 inch barrel.

Yep, I own one and love it. I have shot 1-1/4" groups with it from the bench using cheap 140 gr. Remington Core-locks. :grin: My usual groups are around 1-1/2". Haven't bothered to try any other ammo yet. May try reloading once I've got enough Remington brass saved up.

We have one. It's truly a fine little rifle and extremely accurate. One of the best Handis, I think.

I have a 280 and its my No. 1 go to gun. It will do anything my 45 70,44 mag. or any of the other calibers will do,at longer ranges. I get 2975 fps.with the 150 gr Corloks Rem. ammo. and 1 1/4" groups at 100 yds. Very consitant shooter. Digger

Got my .280 Handi back in 2000 when I got a Michigan elk tag....yup, dropped him in his tracks.

As soon as I got it, I put $120 worth of ammo downrange trying everything I could find. Everything shot really well out of it... Groups ranged from about .75" to 2"....but that is with the factory trigger pull which is ungodly heavy. A 3lbs. trigger would have put the groups 1moa I'd bet.

There are many, many .280 Handi owners here, myself included....they shoot real well!!

For those of you who have Handi rifles and have shot them extensively from a bench rest, what is the correct bench technique? In other words, should the front sandbags be under the forearm or the receiver? What size groups can I reasonably expect with both factory ammo and handloads? I recently purchased a used Handi in .280 and have fired only 3 shots from the bench at 100 yards. The ammo was 150 grain factory loads and the group was only about 1/2" horizontally but strung vertically about 6 inches. I quit right there because I thought there was something wrong with the scope or the bench technique I was using. I have not had a chance to get the rifle back to the range since that one session.

Place the front rest under the hinge, just ahead of the trigger guard. Look thru the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum list for other helpful hints for shooting Handis accurately

Of course mine's not a .280, but I use a Harris bipod on the forarm, and they shoot well enough.
