Some people here dont like Taurus, but a fwe of my friends have had very good luck with their .357mag revolvers.

You might be able to find a used model 27 or 28 S&W for a decent price(<$200).  My dad's S&W 28 w/6" barrel is about 30 years old and has I dont know how many round through it..  still functions like new.

If you are considering used you might consider a blackhawk, or a security six if you can find one. They should go fairly cheap.   KN

A Ruger GP 100 would be a good choice.......Rick

Rugers work well, Used blackhawks are usally one of the best bargins and Vaqueros are really fun, Looks and acts like a colt without the colt price. 8)

Go with the Dan Wesson.  They are great plus you can change the barrels...
The 357's are very inexpensive for what you get.

I have 2 Dan Wessons in 357.  Come to think of it I might be willing ....  just kidding... :-D

i hate to admit to this but
im a taurus owner
an i love the thing lol
i have the 627 tracker in 357
7 shot 6inch stainless barrel
was about 340$ before tax
it has the triangle barrel an the 8 portings
an i tell you what i shoot 158 grain american eagle 357 mag shells in it an got pissed
not that it couldn't shoot it held 7 shots under 2 inches at 50 yards
thats with a junker 2.5 lite retical ncstar scope on it mind you
but it didn't bite or jump it just barked a little load from the porting but i was very upset about it
not that it was a good shooter but to the fact of their was nile none right down to next to zero recoil or muzzle jump
i shot all 7 rounds as fast as i could an the only reasion the gun jumped was from me shooting it double action
an after shooting 200 rounds from it i got bored an swore i wouldn't shoot 38's from it because of the no kick
now again it is allot from the gun being a 6inch barrel an having that porting
so i really would recommend this to some one that has little kids
if it docent kick at all with mags  in it
shooting target 158 round nose lead 38's in it would prob be just lovely for a small child

well good luck in your pick
